Three Souls
Format: Flash-based visual novel w/ point & click movement.
Genre: Horror.
Current Status
Completed Part 1 for Nanoreno2015!!
Play now on DeviantART
Basic synopsis:
Myrah met 'Abby' Abigail on the first day she transferred to Saint Angela's all-girls senior college. Abby was all Myrah could have asked for in a new friend, she was good company, helpful and highly knowledgeable of the school. This went without saying though, as Abby had been there for a very very long time indeed.
Gameplay:
A linear flash-based visual novel with simple point and click style gameplay. Search for objects in a strange parallel world and bring them to three girls whom Abby wishes to exact revenge upon.
Goals:
Have some form of simple Flash VN completed by March 31st.
Creator Comments:
This is my first time doing a Nanoreno, and I'll be working on the project alone. I know it's technically not a Visual Novel in the strictest sense, but I do want a heavy emphasis on atmosphere and character interaction. I also wish to stress that this is a highly experimental project, and although I have built something similar many many years ago, I haven't actually touched much actionscript since then. O_o I'm hoping I can pull through with something simple at the very least. To speed the process up artistically, I will be creating the backgrounds and environment using DAZ 3D studio kits which I construct and render out to piece together in photoshop and flash. I will be creating everything else though. *Deep breath* Here goes…

I did the exact same thing just the other day!
Anyway, this looks like it'll be interesting, especially because the contrast between the two pictures is just plain creepy. Although I wonder, why did the school reopen the classroom after not using it for so long...?

I'm already getting a sense of the atmosphere from the screenshots *shiver*
Good luck with finishing it! I'm looking forward to it and I don't even like horror games XD

That vacant stare is frightening.
One note: it's "exact revenge."
Anyway, I'm excited to see how you handle horror, Cera! Good luck!

This is intriguing, scared the heck outta me from the twisted looking sprites, lol. Good luck with the project, I'll be looking forward to this.

Those eyes on the second sprite
I like the contrast between the sprites and the backgrounds. It's a cool aesthetic.
Best of luck on the project!

I've been pretty neglectful with updates! XD Mainly because I was worried that my idea was a bit too ambitious with my limited actionscript skills and didn't want to generate too much expectation. I'm getting more confident now, although I don't think I'm going to complete the whole game by the 31st but I will have a decent segment to showcase on the day (and all the assets in place.) So the rest won't be far behind. As a VN mixed with a very simple point & click 'stills' interface, this was always going to be a very experimental submission.
On another note, I'd like to know if the screenshot of the dark corridor is too dark for some monitors. I still need for it to be a dark, but seeable. Or perhaps I'll have the character hold a 'flashlight' and change the visuals to have that kind of effect.

The BG looks dark, but not too dark. I can actually still see details.

I absolutely love the character art in this. That look really adds to the eerie feel that the story sounds like it will have

This looks amazing. The style is...ahh! So subtly powerful. I'm definitely looking forward to this. I love point and click adventure games. Oh, one question: jump scares? Yay or nay?

It wouldn't be fair if I warned you now would it? No, there are no jump scares… *smiles*

Well, I played through the chapter, and I can't wait to see more! I still noticed a few grammatical and mechanical errors, but you can easily clean them up for a future release.
Where is the story set, by the way? I'm getting the feeling that it's in England (especially considering the reference made to WWII), but I don't want to make assumptions.
One other thing I noticed when navigating the school is that all of the classroom doors in one view are stated to be for room 1-C, but I know that's not true . . .
Congratulations on getting something done for NaNoReNo!
