Firstly, I am no longer continuing development of this handler as I have started building a new one that is simpler to understand.

For your situation I'd suggest using certain labels as event points for launching your event screens and include a type for the label to set it as automatic or not. Then, when you arrive at each area, check which events are possible and whether any are automatic. If any are, jump to them.
