Re: 28 Rooms [CCA-NC]
Are they really filtered photos? They look so beautifully painted! Please do share your skills! *_*
Re: 28 Rooms [CCA-NC]
Eh.. I was going to reply "Wow, great painting skills, thanks for these wonderful creations" but just realized you said it was filtered photos.
Still impressive, but in another way - it looks really drawn, I wonder how you did that.

Re: 28 Rooms [CCA-NC]
OokamiKasumi posted a part of her method for filtering photos like this in this thread. It isn't the full process, so you'll have to experiment with it to get your own results.

Yep, they were all made by combining SketchUp models with textures, and furniture images in Photoshop then Art-Filtered to look like paintings. The link posted is indeed the outline of how I do it.
Thank you for posting the link, CheeryMoya!
A slightly more detailed tutorial can be found on my visual novel blog:

-- They're made from photo-manipulations, but bare photos don't quite look right with drawn characters, so I art-filtered them to look more like backdrop paintings.

I'm a little confused here. Whose copyrights are in these?

Re: 28 Rooms -- Backgrounds ( & a few more) [CCA-NC]
I put them together in Photoshop then art filtered them. This makes them mine. However, that last image includes a painting created by a specific artist. (The others don't.) As long as the background isn't used Commercially, no one will care that I doctored an existing piece of art.PyTom wrote:I'm a little confused here. However, if this is a problem I can remove that painting from the image?

Re: 28 Rooms [CCA-NC]
Waaaaaaaah, I love SketchUp! I use it all the time for manga backgrounds, but I guess I didn't think to do it for VNs. Pretty stupid NOT to realize this, now that I think of it....OokamiKasumi wrote:Yep, they were all made by combining SketchUp models with textures, and furniture images in Photoshop then Art-Filtered to look like paintings. But your filtering effects are really special. I have trouble getting proper lighting effects when I do things in SketchUp and end up doing really roundabout things that, in the end, can look a bit forced...but every background here is beautiful.
I'm guessing the models aren't all yours? That might be another reason for non-commercial, but it's completely legitimate to have these in such (beautifully) filtered scenes for personal projects, especially if they were posted in the warehouse to begin with (that kind of removes all claims to it).

Re: 28 Rooms [CCA-NC]
Uncle Mugen pretty much solidly uses SketchUp for his backgrounds, and he doesn't art filter them at all. He does however, Render them in another program.athenastar17 wrote:Waaaaaaaah, I love SketchUp! I use it all the time for manga backgrounds, but I guess I didn't think to do it for VNs. Thank you! However, I do all my lighting effects in Photoshop -- the hard way: Multiply for shadows, and Overlay for light.athenastar17 wrote:But your filtering effects are really special. It's the furniture and object photos that aren't mine, but because they are art filtered, and in grouping they didn't originally come in, that's far enough from the originals to make them mine. It only takes a 20% change to make them mine under the "fair usage" copyright law.athenastar17 wrote:I'm guessing the models aren't all yours...?
