Stargazing Pictures Dump (was:Just leaving this here)

#1 Post by やまと » Wed Aug 28, 2013 4:02 pm

I bought a new second-hand compact camera, a Canon SD400.

Since stargazing is my favourite hobby, I tried to know what were the limits of the camera, so I decided to take a photo of the moon with my telescope. This is the result, quite decent, but also, sux a bit :P
The one I like more is the black and white one.

(1100x1100 image, i can't post in forum :-(

This is another image, completely unprocessed. Dunno why it has a orange ink :?:
You can see the blooming in the whole image (which does not appear in the previous image) cause I forgot to use a moon filter.
The blueish small halo around the moon border is due to chromatic aberration of the telescope.
Also it is quite out of focus. I took the image with the camera in my hand, so the small vibration affects a lot the result image.

I will try with Saturn right now to post it tomorrow. I think the camera can show some detail... I tried with Jupiter, but only appears as a ball of light.

Enjoy.
またね!

Just want to make sure; everyone can use the pictures you put here in their games, right? Be it free or commercial games?

PS: I changed the thread title. And if you permit everyone to use the pictures, I will move the thread to CC section.

Yes if the game is non-profit.
Anyway I'm sure you can find better free images around internet made with an appropriate camera.
My old camera died, so now i don't have any camera for astrophotography. And I'm not likely spend 700+ $ in a new camera right now.
This means that I can only take Moon, and maybe Saturn and Jupiter photos. If someone needs a photo from a specific geographical feature in the moon, let me know and I will try my best.
I tried Saturn just two hours ago... but clouds gave no chance :x
Will try Jupiter today at 6:30 am, I hope the clouds are gone.

Hahaha no problem, if the game is free.

This is that exact same Moon with an orange ink, but here it is processed.
I set it to back and white colors and refocusing mask.

Enjoy:

If clouds, wind and atmosphere distortion is not much strong, I will try Saturn this night.
Also will try Jupiter, if I am able to wake up at 6:00 am ^_^

I took this image with the camera, without the assistance of the telescope. It seems that is just the moon and some plane trail, but it is more than that. Just keep reading:

I was today at 6:30 am trying to get a photo of Jupiter, while I noticed that a plane flew in front of the giant planet, making my view of Jupiter really blurred (through the telescope) mostly due to the engines' turbulence rather than the cloud of vapor (with a telescope you can see though not-much dense clounds)

In the image, you can see the Moon to the right, the plane trail in the center. But you can also see Jupiter!!!! Can you find it??? If not, read the spiler!!!
If you can't find Jupiter in that image, just trace an horizontal line from the Moon to the left edge of the image. Where this line is over the plane trail, that little pixel is Jupiter!!!! who can, in fact, hold 1300 Earth Planets within his volume, and he is even more dense than all other planets in the solar system... TOGETHER!!! So, that pixel is the biggest pixel in your screen!!!
