Group Play is a weekly event in which one game is selected to be promoted within the forums to be played by us as a group. It provides an opportunity to promote some smaller games that would otherwise get lost, promote discussion and promote creativity. This isn't just about the creators of the games, but also us as a community. It acts as a way for us to analyse work as creative people and for us to develop the necessary critical language to develop and pursue our work.

This week's game is "Super Otome Quest" by Polymorphic Games!

You can find links to the game here: Super Otome Quest

There are some rules to follow in the following discussion about the game.

- In your primary comment on the game, please try to mention one thing you liked and one thing you think could be improved. This is in the spirit of giving both encouraging and helpful comments to the creators. You may of course go beyond this with praise or critique. I can't enforce this rule, I'll just silently judge you.

- Please try to do one play-through or enough of the game to develop a solid opinion. Some things can be commented on early on, but things like plot might be best left until you finish the game.

- There is no rule as to whether you post here only or in the completed game topic. Feel free to do as you like. This is just a space to discuss this game while playing it at the same time as others.

- Please try to think about the game play as a whole, as well as the different parts that make up the game.

- Please be respectful to the game and creator. You don't have to like a game, but you should be respectful to the effort.

- Please follow the forum rules.

If you would like to make your own suggestions and haven't already, please feel free to PM them to me.

These are the current guidelines for suggestions:

- Anyone can send me 3 games (VN, KN Sim, whatever, just from these forums or related to) that they think are worth playing by PM.
- There can only be three suggestions per person and if a game gets suggested multiple times, they still only get one draw.
- You may suggest your own games.
- For now they must not be 18+, just because we want to encourage everyone to join first up. If it goes well, maybe something can be arranged for the big kids.
- Please try to make sure the game is short (around a max of 30,000 words). It isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's easier to make time for smaller games and it will give this a greater chance of success.
- They must be free and preferably available on all 3 platforms, again for easy access.

And with that, let the games begin!

Something of note: This game was a collaboration effort from most of the studio members at the time, and so is properly credited to Polymorphic Games. Shira posted it.

Oh yeah, I kind of forgot about that. Most of the games so far have been singular primary efforts. Fixed.

First some technical stuff. I don't know if some things are because of NaNoRen's deadline.
- Rather empty main screen. Do like the background music for it.
- That first bg has some seriously saturated colours. The doors and especially that vending machine. :X
- There's residu of white lines around the sprites. With Keith there was even a whole part white between the hairlines.
- " is not really necessary in a VN, but this is preference I guess.
- Some different sprite expressions would be nice.

Now about the story itself:
I was really not expecting all these random things. Suddenly there's some skeleton and then...magical powers! lol
I like how you have to help mafia to get the guy. :P
Also, yay to pince-nez glasses(?).

Here is my Let's Play: http://youtu.be/lcy_hnmei_M (Should I also put the Let's Play on the main thread?)

I love this game. I like the sense of humour and all the twists and turns.

Some of the images are see-through. Most notably the chair in Mimi's room and Fifi's skirt.

This is a great game to get people to play as long as you remind them it is a parody.

I liked the upbeat music at the workplace, and the soundtrack was nice overall, but most of the time I felt the music was too sad or gloomy for the action/interactions in a scene. I also liked the large game screen and backgrounds; it made me feel like I was more in the game.

It felt awkward to click through pauses where one would expect the sprite to change expression, but it doesn't.
I didn't find the story or characters very interesting... But I got the bad ending first, so I played a little more to find some other endings.
None of the parodies were really funny to me, although
the otomeborn ending seemed to be written the best parody-wise
and I didn't expect
the little monster ending with the french fry costume.
Since I've gotten the good ending, I probably won't replay this game again.

I really enjoyed reading this, my kind of humour and eighties references always a bonus!
I wasn't expecting the degree of difference in the endings which made playing each route well worthwhile (though I think I maybe missed one looking through the background images in the game file.)
This is quirky, funny, and at the same time quite satisfying.
I loved the characters too, especially Mimi's boss.

I did notice the odd bit of white fringing on sprites, and I would have loved some way of knowing how many endings I maybe missed.

Overall this is just my kind of thing, daft, funny and entertaining.
