next one,

30 minutes in. That lemon is WAY too big. And ellipses are still a nightmare.

...+/- 30 minutes later.

...+/- 30 minutes later.
That lemon sticking up is getting longer and longer...

about 15 minutes later.
Have to stop for today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more time to draw:/

Today's view:
progress so far:
60 minutes
really starting to regret including that glass >:0
it's giving me so many problems!
I think after the 4th and last angle of this still life, I'll draw that glass seperately until I get it sort of right. It's bugging me SO MUCH.

30 min.
another 30 min.

not sure why I started adding shadows :/
that's it for today.

Decided to ditch the bowl and bamboo glass, it was starting to get cumbersome..
so as a new subject I chose:
and decided to paint it.

quick sketch (about 30 minutes)
paint result after 1.5 hours:

(decided to leave out the spoon/walnuts.
What I learned:
1. I need to read my Harold Speed book and "Oil painting for the serious beginner".
2. Mixing colours that are true to life is super hard.
3. I shouldn't rush my drawings just 'cause I want to paint.
4. I should choose just one simple object as a subject to paint. Not 4.
5. Pushing paint around with a palette knife is fun XD
UGH!
Will try again when I have the courage.

Today I couldn't find any of my erasers, so here are some crappy head studies from Loomis for now.
Using two colors so I can do a rough sketch with one and then correct with the others seems to replace my eraser, so after I've done some homework I might return with some more studies like that (can guarantee it though, because it's getting late).

completely not understanding how Loomis' had construction works. (I understand it now though!...I think)
last round for today:

Just showing a sign of life!
RSI is a bit bad so not much drawing going on.

This is from last week.
We had a fire truck in our neighbourhood saving someone, so there were lots of people outside watching...
so I turned it into a lifedrawing class from my window... But I felt so bad about it, I only drew the above and it sucks lol.

Found out my local craft store started carrying notebooks with good quality craftpaper. Feels like I struck a goldmine lol.
I'm going back there soon to raid their stock before they stop selling them.
Got this one for a test drive... now I can use the big sheets I ordered some time ago for large drawings, and use this one to doodle in ^^
Been a while since my last drawing session, so just some quick no eraser life studies to break the ice again.

No kidding. You did strike gold. You know how hard it is to find brown paper sketchbooks? It's a pain in the butt to even find them online. They're always "Sold Out" or "Being Restocked". But they are great for sketching from a midtone range, and then hitting the highlights or defining areas using a Col-Erase or Prismacolor White pencil.

Really? I always had this image of the US (assuming you're from there) being the land of kraft paper! I feel extra lucky now, especially 'cause these notebooks are actually pretty affordable as opposed to the ones you can get online.
I bought for exactly that purpose though I use conte crayons/pencils at the moment... but I have some "fear" of starting to use tone/values in my drawings as long as my lines aren't good.
Maybe I should just suck it up though. You won't get anywhere without practice...and I guess it's not a crime to practice line and values at the same time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel like I'm back to square one. Or maybe it's 'cause my brain feels like spaghetti thanks to exam stress.
But my studies/gestures suck. Big time. It feels like my brain is reaching some kind of meltdown. So hard to focus on stuff.
More studies. about 1 1/2 hours.
gestures. No clue what I'm doing. I keep screaming LOOK FOR S-SHAPES SSSSSSSSSS-SHAPES!!! WHERE'S THE ENERGY? WHAT IS THIS HUH? HUH? But... not feeling it today.
I think it's time to pull out Loomis and some perspective books again ^_^

Not bad for a first painting attempt! Did you prime the canvas before you started painting? I don't want to assume if you already know this, but if you don't you can put two coatings of some water and gesso mix on the canvas or another type of primer it will make painting a lot easier. If you don't prime the paint will be absorbed by the canvas making you have to use more and eventually eat away at it.
Good luck!

Really? Thanks! I felt so embarassed posting that u_u
I used watercolour paper with some layers of gesso, but.... I guess maybe it's better for me to actually use a real canvas.
Once the exam madness is over again, I'll try another painting

But I'll keep it simple and persevere next time!

My gestures are so embarassing, this is the only page I dare post.
Going to attempt perspective again

Mandatory life drawing, that looks nothing like me XD
I swear the exam stress is making me even worse at drawing than I already am >:0
I guess it's 'cause I feel guilty and panicky when I'm not studying :/

You should have seen my first oil painting. I had NO idea what I was doing. It looked like crap!
I wasn't sure if you were using gesso or not but I'm glad you are! Also it's good that you were using it on something strong enough to not warp with the gesso. I learned that if your board/paper ever starts to warp you can put a little gesso on the back to help it out a tad.
I think you'll need to use a little more oil paint in your application next time because you can still see the white from underneath. Did you treat the paint with linseed oil or something similar? I personally like it a lot more than just oil paint alone.
ALSO, with that life drawing, you should be drawing light forms and guidelines underneath to make it easier to place things.

I mixed it with turpentine...that's why it's so thin:/
I keep reading fat over lean and stuff.. but it's just confusing me haha. Because the darn turpentine/paint mix just slides all over the place when I apply more paint.
And yes construction lines... usually I do make use of them (see the still lifes)... but lately I've been really halfassed about it >_<
When I get a bigger mirror I'll do a better job at drawing a self portrait.
This tiny mirror is really annoying to focus on.
stress is making me utterly useless. Drawing and studying-wise T_T Why did I pick engineering when I suck at math.

After midnight drawing sesh.
No thinking, no erasers, no pencil to rub out... just my fountain pen and less than 5 minutes.
This is one of those few times where I really have fun with drawing without any goal in mind except to just draw (drawing for the sake of drawing...does that make sense? I'm someone who usually can't enjoy something unless it's useful/has a purpose etc.), so....
I'm sure some people will hate me for this ('cause of the crappy drawings I produce), but I'm going to do this more often ^_^
Just to let go every now and then.
Though... I could pay more attention to drawing arms >_>

Well, that was fun,
now back to doing studies.
