Those backgrounds are so stunning! Wow. Do you have a tutorial for how you paint backgrounds?

Thanks, Coren! Not really, I just mainly tried to paint it in the same way I would for people and stuff. I'll take screenshots the next time I draw a background and add comments and stuff, though. (*・ω・)

I still have to add other details to this/fix a few things, but it's near done.
Sketch. For linearting, I didn't really care much if things were perfectly straight or not. The only ones I did care about were the vertical lines (since I have a tendency to tilt them), so I added a layer of a perfectly-straight vertical line to help. For picture 6, I accidentally made it as if the air was dense with blue or something, haha. I should've just put down the base colors at first, but I was kinda impatient. Pictures 8->9 is just adding some windows. Pictures 10~12 just show how I block something that has tons of it in. Do the "darkest" shadow of the ones in the far back, then the ones that are near front, and then the parts that the light should hit the most. It's not something most people would look at (I don't think), so the lack of detail should be fine, hah. If you wanna know the brush that I use for some reason, it's:

Thats interesting how you didn't do the all of the base colours and started shading some things. I think I might try steps 10-12 coz you make it look easy. Thanks for posting this!
P.S I like the people version xD

Haha, well, I usually get really bored just filling everything. That's the main part that I really hate doing, actually.
Yeah, okay! Most of the time, starting out with a base->light->dark makes objects look really weird, so I try to go the opposite way. It's kinda like real life, where everything is technically dark, and light just comes in and hits it in a certain way.
No problem!
I really like the people version too. :'D

Ooh! I like your coloring style and the colors you use! Thanks for the background screenshots, it motivates me to draw my own background too ;D And your rough coloring is nice too. I don't know, but even though they might not be as neat as most drawings I saw, it looks "finished". LOL I don't know how to say it, it's hard to explain. More like, "enough" rather than incomplete? Never mind, I'm making it sounds more difficult to understand.
And the last drawing looks fine to me. I love her expression, she looks so cute!

Plannin' on writing a really short VN, so here's one of many spritez for the main character.

Haha, it's cool! I really like messy-looking drawings, so a lot of stuff I make look "enough" most of the time. :P
Thanks, yo! And, no problem. :>Akitsuki wrote:Ooh! I like your coloring style and the colors you use! Mo' art! (All different heights... gahaha)

And a WIP! Kinda almost done, I just gotta... clean it up, decorate it and stuff. (Also, critique/pointing anything weird out would be real appreciate, yo.)

Oh, they're all very lovely! I really like "20140831-doodle-2.png." (Very top one from the 9/3 post.) I just adore the hair and faces/expressions. At first, I thought he had sideburns, but it might just be longer locks in the front? Either way, I like it.
I'm also really fond of the last one in your top post, with the light blue background. The colors you chose for her work very well together. I'm a sucker for dark skin and pale, parchment-colored hair. The blue really adds a nice, vibrant touch to it! Her hair style is really cute, too.
Edit: I think I saw you mention Shin Megami Tensei somewhere. Hnnnnnng. <3

Naoto :3
Also, haven't had the chance to comment on this thread yet, but I love your style (but again, I love painterly styles)
Sometimes your shadow colors aren't accurate but it works as an artistic choice!
From all your backgrounds, one really stands out to me though because it doesn't have the nice atmosphere of the other ones (it's the one with the girl facing the sea).
Would you mind if I did a quick paintover?

@Talross: Hahaha, thanks! Yeah, they're more like longer locks. It's kinda weird, but eeh!
Aw man, yeah. Dark skin+light hair or reverse is really, really nice. Thanks!
(And yeah! I got my first SMT game for the 3DS, although I need to get on finishing that, hahaha.)
@Railgun: Thanks! I've been trying to push myself on coloring more because I lack a lot of stuff in that department, so I'm happy to hear that it works as an artistic choice (at least)! I'll still push on, though. :'D
And on the paintover: yes, please! I'd really appreciate any sort of help I can get!
