Lolita's Art thread :D Advice and tips welcome

#1 Post by harajukulolita »

Hey everyone, looking at all the wonderful artworks posted on here just makes me want to just throw away all my art stuff sometimes lol

But......... alas I can never bring myself to such a point so I would rather post a few things myself and see what the general public has to say about my attempts *smoke screen: disappears like a ninja*

This is one of my more recent works. I've had the concept for year but only started working on it this year. It took quite a while since I would start and stop and after getting some inspiration, start again.

This is a background I drew for my game Starlight Wishes.

Thank you, I've only recently started even attempting backgrounds, only did character art before. Your comment is appreciated :D

It's well deserved.
You seem to be especially skilled in your lighting...the lights from the ceiling hitting the ground and the rays of sunlight coming through the window are excellent details to have.^^

corridor_day small.png:
The way you colored in the lineart reminds me of flash, for some reason. Either that, or because the shadows seem to be everywhere (which make sense since there's so many light sources, but still). Not a lot of contrast. You could've changed the way you airbrush'd in the fluorescent lights as well.

Same with "Classroom day," you kinda go overboard with the gradients, which remind me a lot of flash games.

the_priestess:
Her bra-thing looks like it would be tight, so her boobs should press against each other, or at least be closer.
Collarbone is too far apart.
A lot of the shading on her body doesn't make much sense. I'm... assuming that the light is coming from the front, but it definitely would've been more interesting if the light was coming from behind the phoenix.
She looks pretty flat in general, kinda like you were too timid while shading her in. I would suggest playing around with harsher colors and a harder brush while you paint? I know that helps some people with contrast/form.
