First, I'd really like feedback on expressions/sprites. These are the 3 main characters in the story. Thanks in advance!
Elena:

Jaimie:

Amber:

I'm working on this right now, actually. To be honest, the reason they're all cut off at the middle, and only shoulders are showing is that I'm just the WORST at drawing hands. I'm practicing things like that as often as I can. Thanks for the advice!SundownKid wrote:Probably pose drawing practice would be a good place to start. It's a typical thing for beginning artists to draw all of their poses in the same forward facing, perfectly symmetrical way. It's better to add some depth, that is, head slightly turned, body slightly turned, arms raised, et cetera. You did do that a bit on the Jamie sprite, but I like it when each emotion has its own pose. It keeps characters from feeling like statues.
I'm not sure if you're being silly or serious.Desu_Cake wrote:They're really flat-looking.
You gotta think in threeee deee maaaaan~
It does look flat to me as well. You can definitely have a clean shading and still have it look more 3D. More shadows and highlights will definitely help there. Don't be afraid to try for more contrast in color of your shadows. Especially in Amber, where the shadow is very close to the original color of the skin.I'm not sure if you're being silly or serious.
I want them to have a 2D anime/manga feel, but I also want them to be dynamic. Can you give me some ideas as to what you're talking about? Like, do you just like to see more highlight/shadow? Do you prefer painted looks? I really want them to be clean.

I was being serious in a silly way.jezebelthenun wrote:I'm not sure if you're being silly or serious.

A little bit. But, if it works...jezebelthenun wrote:I did use a 3D model as reference this time. (Is that cheating?)
