SundownKid wrote: I think that question would be more apt if you were using a graphic novel-y art style that was very sketchy and unusual. Your art style is essentially anime, but more detailed. I am sure that a lot of people would use your art style if they could afford it or have the skill to draw it.
I want to co-sign this comment from SundownKid. This art style is still essentially the moe anime art style...just more detailed and with a paintly approach rather than a cel-shaded approach...but it is the anime style in aesthetics. So I don't think this will alienate the anime audience.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

I don't see why anyone would get interested with the plot of the story then suddenly lose all interest upon seeing the art just because its abit more shaded than what they're used to seeing. I like this artstyle, it's very catchy and stands out. Plus, I've never actually heard of someone complaining about the artstyle not being anime so you'll be more than fine.

I really enjoy the art style! As I'm sure other people have already said, it doesn't necessarily matter the style isn't the same as what they use in anime. If anything, by straying from the typical style gives the game a sense of uniqueness and makes a lasting impression on the players.

For me, I see no problems in the art. I like how you make the 'painty' effect.
