ETA: probably going to add any other BGs I'm experimenting with on this thread, feel free to leave any feedback so I can get better!

new BG! I'm trying to move beyond photo manipulation and start drawing BGs (though I did use a photo to sketch out the rough Lines... Tell me what you think? Still a lot of room for improvement obviously > <

(Also please don't use this for anything, thank you)

Another one I'd love feedback on: (This one I just did line art over the image, and then applied a few filters to the original photo)

**please don't use, thanks

With the first one, the black lines are a bit thick and the side-building's roofs seem off. A bit too basic and the line's perspective is off. Do you know of the horizon points technique? The other one does look nice. It looks like a 3D rendered image rather than a picture, though I think with this technique that it'll be much more difficult to make multiple bgs in the same style because the photos will have to be similarily colored etc..

well I can adjust the colors in photoshop or just paint the line art lol but yeah, it'll be slightly different. I've seen the horizon points but I'm using actual photos as references so I'm basing it more on those. I'll look into it more though. I'm working on another one now, I'll see if I can match it to the first one > <

Hi - I can probably critique better with a paint-over if you would be interested in that?

anyway, I'm getting better at creating the line art, but I am still shit at coloring the things > <

this is pretty much 100% original, so if it's screwy I only have myself to blame

Hi, I offered some thoughts on you're images a while back, I've been flat-out so got delayed, I was half done so I'll try and get it finished off over the next day or so. But that newer stuff looks like the perspective is a lot closer.

Hi,
Ha - isn't that the way, always too much to do.
Scribbles_20170425.jpg
I've given the three I saw the most to comment on a quick mark-up, it's brief but I hope it's some use. Yellow are note about lighting, green lines are horizons etc, and cyan lines are notes about perspective.
I think you're probably aware of the general stuff about the eyeline/natural-horizon and the drawn horizon. Certainly for the first two from the eyeline the view is about 3m off the ground, rather than a natural perspective.
For the second image I've just marked out the boarders of the light and shadow from the visible light sources.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

No worries - glad it was of help. Single point lighting (the sun, single lights) is easy it's just projecting straight lines, but yes, as soon as you have multiple light sources or secondary lighting/reflections it becomes much harder :(
Once you get to that level I find it easier to approximate, though you have the advantage that in these situations you have softer shadows.
