Bleeding Colors to other color art style!

#1 Post by Catlip Candy »

Hi! I wanted to get more opinions about this kind of art style.

I really fell in love with that style of coloring your art by mixing other colors with the other colors. It's kind of hard to explain, but this tutorial by Sangcoon will make it better for you to understand.

I learned how to color my art originally by having a separate layer for each color so that you won't mess up the other colors on your artwork. However, nowadays, I can see more and more artworks that has this "bleeding color" style on them and it looks good! But whenever I do something like this, it never turns out well. It looks like an artwork of a kindergarten who's trying to color for the first time and coloring out of the lineart!

In the photo above, it's not a bit noticeable but you can see some of the bleeding colors. They looked like they're accidentally colored and I think I made some mistake somewhere. (Yes, I know I can't draw well lol but please focus on the coloring for now q_q)

I drew some circles in the picture where the colors bleed into each other so you can find it easily:

Can somebody please give more advice on how to use this art style better? T_T

Think of them not just as bleeding colors, but also as reflected light. It'll give you some structure in where and how to bleed because colors don't just bleed anywhere.

TL;DR reflected light is the light that bounces off the objects around the character and lights up the character's shadowy places, usually

The reflected light also takes a color of the object it bounced off and colors the character in that color

Further on shadows and how they work, see these

Proko also has series about anatomy, he's great at that.

Also, here's a bunch of free video tutorials about anything in art from another great guy https://www.ctrlpaint.com/library/

I'll continue after getting some more time

Thanks, YonYonYon! Somehow it kind of looks difficult because I'm already skipping to learn about this bouncing light even though I still haven't learned about shading and blending colors properly T________T Thanks so much about the links!!!~ I'm gonna check those out now! Also if you know about tutorials that are not videos (cos they consume a lot of data T___T), please do share! But I'll check these tutorials, too!!! Thanks so much!!!~
