[In Development] C++ Visual Novel Engine Project

#1 Post by Grant2600 » Wed Jun 03, 2015 7:52 pm

Hey I am new to this site and in-fact fairly new to visual novels but would like to share something I have been working on.

It is a visual novel engine that allows to you make your own visual novel using script files that I have tired to make as simple as possible. Ofcourse you can see your visual novel run in the engine itself. its very quick to develop your novel once you have all of the art that you need, and there is no need to compile anything. There are only a few art assets in there right now, I'm not really an artist so a friend who is drew me up some assets to use in the example. Perhaps in a future build I can include more assets for those of you who want to create a visual novel without having to worry about drawing assets.

Here is the github repository that I am uploading the latest versions to, right now the 720p version should work fine on most pcs, however some laptops do not support this so I have provided a 1240x800 build also.

once on github click on the build that you want and then click Raw on the next page. You will download a copy of the build and don't forget to unzip the project somewhere once you have downloaded it.

This is a demo release and I intend to continue work on the project but would like to hear some feedback from people who have experience with visual novels. If your computer doesn't support either resolution I will also help you with that if you let me know what resolution you need.

There are also possible plans to go to tablets and mobile for this project, depending on how much interest there is.

I'm using a development kit in C++ called DarkGDK for this and I am not yet sure as to how to make the application trusted by windows, so it may flag up with a warning or you may have to run it in administrator.

Thanks, happy visual novel making and please leave feedback :)
