[Ethornell/Buriko General Interpreter]Questions on Ethornell/Buriko General Interpreter

#1 Post by tungstenboy »

Hello people,
I have some questions regarding BGI.
-What is BGI?
-How is this engine used?
-How can I make my own games with BGI?
Thanks in advance.

BGI is an engine used in various different VNs (mostly Japanese ones) but also used by Manga gamer to port stuff to english (example old Higurashi translation)

It's a powerful engine, but it's proprietary and is not feely available to use. There were some open source clone projects but they went nowhere.

If you are looking for more freely available Japanese visual novel engines I suggest Suika2, KiriKiri Z/SDL2, O/Po/Nscripter.

Unfortunately some of the more recent heavy hitting japanese engines (Yuri's, Catsystem2, adv++, Light.vn ) don't support English text, or more specifically wordwrapping which in terms of Visual novels makes it a mess.
