Looking for an EDITOR for Skyfish demo (CLOSED)

#1 Post by Aviala » Wed Dec 17, 2014 11:50 am

UPDATE: CLOSED

Old messages:
Since the person who was going to do editing and/or proofreading for the project hasn't answered my messages, I'm now looking for a new editor. The requirement is that you're fluent in english and you have experience with creative writing. Experience with editing would be great, but not absolutely necessary.

The word count for the demo will be around 10 000 words or maybe a bit more. I'm in a hurry to find an editor because I'm planning to release the demo on 13th of February. I admit, I'm currently running behind the schedule (partly because my editor bailed on me), but I'm pretty sure I can finish the demo soon; if not on the planned date, then at least before the end of the month.

ALSO, if someone is interested in helping me with ANIMATION, SPECIAL EFFECTS, CODING or MUSIC and SOUND EFFECTS, that would be awesome! I have some scenes that I'd like to have simple animation and special effects (like snowfall, flashes of light, etc) in, and I'd love to have animated backgrounds. But all this is extra stuff that's not absolutely necessary for the game; I can find some music and sound effects online, and animation is something that's not really even necessary, it'd just make the game more dynamic and fun.

Hey there!

I'm Aviala, the mastermind behind the Skyfish project. Link to the thread.

Image

It's currently a free project but the 2nd and 3rd chapter will be commercial. It will take a long time before I can even finish chaper 1, though. But I promise this project will be finished at some point since I've already been working on it so long. I don't know when it will be finished, but someday.
I'm working on the VN alone, which is proving to be a bit more than I can handle. Doing the character sprites in a painting-like style is taking a lot of time and effort and I also need to work on my writing. That's why I'd like to find someone else do some backgrounds. I'm a poor student so I can't afford to pay much but some kind of very small payment might be possible, though I'm primarily looking for free help.

I'm not expecting anyone to help me with the whole game for free, though. I just need a couple of decent looking backgrounds and some GUI art before mid-february so I can get the demo of the game done in time for a local anime event. I have an artist alley table in Desucon Frostbite and I'm planning to advertise the game there but I really need more art for that.
The quality of the art needs to be good. As professional-looking as possible. I know asking for quality work for free might be too much but the project is really dear to me so I'd like it to looks as good as possible. I'd use ready-made free stock backgrounds but there aren't any that suit my fantasy world.

I'm also looking for and editor/proofreader, either just for the demo or the whole game. The editor must be fluent in English and have some previous experience with writing and preferably editing too. I'm mainly looking for someone who'se native language is English (since mine is not). I don't have a huge amount of text ready yet but since the demo needs to be done in a couple of months I'm going to need someone to find my grammar mistakes and help me make my text flow better. I'm not very experienced with writing so my text might need some heavy editing.

If you'd like to help, please comment below or PM me! I'd also like to see some samples of your work :>

Re: Looking for BG artist/colourist & an editor for Skyfish

I'm still looking for help!

I'm also still looking for an editor! I really, really need one, so if you're interested, comment below or PM me.

Some recent news on the project:
I've gotten some writing done and the word count is currently 6500. I'm actively working on the game every day.
I've also got some GUI elements now, though additional help is welcome! I still don't have any graphics for menus, just a textbox and maybe some other small things.

I found some artist friends who are willing to help me with the backgrounds, but if anyone's still interested in helping, that would be cool. I've also started sketching some backgrounds but I don't know if I can finish them on time without help, so if you'd rather colour BG's than draw them, that's a possibility too! :)

Hello! Nice to meet you.

I can do GUIs! As well as editing. I wish I had references, but the closest I have available are my homework (haha) and a presidential letter/response that I received when the city recognized my writing skills. A bit unorthodox, but... That's what I currently have on hand, lol... Either way, I can edit.

I whipped up a few examples for an otome game earlier today and posted them here:
http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 61&t=29631

Of course, the style was done in order to accomodate the otome like structure the OP was searching for; I can easily tailor the GUI to meet your needs. : )

Let me know what you think, please!

Hey there!

I'll gladly accept your offer on the editing! As I said, I'm not a native English speaker so I could really use some help. Do you have any experience with editing? It's okay if you don't, as long as you at least have some experience with writing.

As for the GUI, liked what you whipped up for the dating sim, though the colours were a bit too bright to my tastes. I guess that fits a dating sim, though. :'') It'd be cool if you could help me out. I can't really provide you with buttons or such unless you really can't do them yourself. I can provide some character art or something like that, though, and maybe a logo since I think the game should probably have one. Right now I just really need a really nice main menu and a basic options screen. Can you do the coding for the GUI as well, or do you just do designs?

I'm not that fluent with coding, unfortunately!
And haha oh that's fair enough - the colors were bright, but designed to suit the person's tastes. : )

Here are a few more examples, however!

This one was for a gritty thriller setting.

@Kitteas: Looks good! I'll PM you.

Though I already found people to help me with most of the art stuff and editing, I could still use more help, especially with the backgrounds.

Hi Aviala, I can help you out with editing! I'm an English/Media Studies major at university with a job at a business school's Marketing and Communications Department where I fact-check and edit their magazine. I'm also Producer of my club's Culture Show, where I edit the original script. I co-wrote the script in the 2013 show and have taken creative writing classes, so I've got experience with creative writing as well. Send me a PM if you'd like~

Thanks for the offers but I found someone to help me already. I might need another editor later in the production though, so if you're interested, stay tuned and keep an eye on this thread. : )
