Looking for a co-writer/partner for a small project.

#1 Post by Lilja » Wed Jun 10, 2015 4:41 pm

Hey!

I would like to join up with a co-writer to create a short visual novel, we both can use as reference and as a project to learn from.
I want it short so we can complete it on a short time frame, and to minimize the risk of us dropping the project on the floor due to lack of motivation.

I have some preferences in terms of genre and style, but I'm looking for a partner, not a slave, so I don't dictate either the story, setting or anything else, we create it together.

I of course have a sketchy idea. It contains topics like:
  • A protagonist who needs to prioritize time. We can never accomplish all the stuff we want, and sometime we have to prioritize, and sometime we miss out on stuff. That's life.
  • A love story that is open to both same sex relationships as well as relationships with additional partners. I.e. both monogamous, polyamorous, hetero and home relationships endings.
  • Adult characters that talk about and do adult stuff, which include having sex. So a delicate amount of erotic/sexual content, without turning it into a pornographic novel.
These are topics I would love to make a story about, but again, nothing is set in stone.
I would like to work with a sweet/nice/pleasant and open-minded person who wants to use a good amount of time to create a story, but without it taking forever. I don't want to set a specific amount of hours per week, but I think we should be able to talk/write over Skype regularly to inspire each other and proceed with the project.

I'm from Denmark, is 27 years old, and capable of writing but is insecure about my ability to complete a larger piece of writing on my own. Also I would love to co-create something, and two minds are better than one. - I create music, and would love to make some original/cover tracks for the novel as well. I have a background in computer science, so I'm capable of (and intent to) script the game.

Your age and background isn't important, as long as you are willing to put the time and passion into create something awesome. However if your have other abilities you would like to take into use, that's just awesome, and I would love to hear about it. =)
Hope to hear from some interesting people.

Best regards.
-Tobias

Hey, it's not often I see Danes like me in the visual novel fandom! Nice to meet you! Sadly I'm working on a little silly project myself currently and also writing a novel so I don't have time, but I wish you the best of luck!! Really I hope you get far!

Hey Nanna. We surely aren't the most represented nation here. - And not to flaunt with my student cap, but that might be a general tendency when you come from such a small nation like ours. =P
I have already checked your project out, and it sounds cool, maybe a little to Image though.
But thanks!, and good luck with your project too.

Hello Tobias!

Your concept greatly intrigues me, and to put it simply I'm interested in working on a joint project with you. I've been wanting to create something that addresses romantic and sexual orientations--specifically polygamy--and think this would be a great opportunity to do so, in addition to the other topics you listed. Right now I am actually working on another small project, titled Curiouser and Curiouser, but will be done with it by the end of the month. I would then be more than willing to fully dedicate myself to a new project!

I just have a few questions. I know you said we could collaborate on it, but what genre and style did you have in mind? Have you given any thought yet to the setting, characters, etc? I'm just curious as to what your ideas were so far.

I am a capable writer, albeit no literary genius. In addition I am also an artist! While I'm not as skilled as many of the amazing artists on this site I can definitely create sprites and should be able to put together CGs/logos/GUI elements and the like. I'm new to visual novels so I don't have any finished pieces to show but am linking to some older material of mine that would be similar to the style I could produce: just click here, here, here, and here.

If interested feel free to PM me or email me at kirarya.dev@gmail.com for further discussion. c:

Hey Kirarya
Awesome that you're interested! And congratulation with almost being done with your other project.

I'm gonna quote you and answer your here, as others might be interested as well.

Here's my thoughts so far:

Genre: My original plan was to make a "simple" love story in a modern/urban world, which addresses both romantic and casual relations, without being burdened with cultural norms regarding these.

Style: If I was to build this on my own, I might be trying to draw the stuff myself, well knowing that nobody would like it, as I'm not a good artist. - After drawing 1/5 of the game, I might then regret it, and start to use free resources as much as possible, and then pay for those unique things I needed in case of my story.
But one thing is what I would like to do, another is what is realistic to do. - I haven't got the budget to pursue the style and quality I would like, so I'll have to settle with what's possible. - But if I were to roll with a urban setting, I would like to go for a serious/faint look, maybe even dull - just to enhance the effect of the bright and colorful elements we put into the story.- But again, I'm not settled with anything, and it's clearly an area I'm looking forward to plan out. - A idyllic/lighthearted style could be awesome as well. =)

Setting/Characters:I was thinking classical urban. I had a female protagonist in mind. Probably a student at a university (so mid-twenties), but my first idea was to let the story take in the characters spare time. - I would love to create a thoughtful, logical, and well-spoken protagonist, and then surround her with a few (one or two) other characters mainly to tell about her everyday, e.g. family, flatmate, etc; and then the characters which will be subject to the 'romantic' part. Could as an example be a classmate, her best friend, and a cousin. - Depending on the characters, this could also lead to different environments through different spare time activities. This could lead to settings in darker underground environments, as well as a lighter counterpart which could be the university library, or just a classic bar.
Again I don't want the scope of the story to be too big, so I would rather explore a few but well rounded environments. Same goes with characters. So running with a few well written characters, who we really get to know, but of course enough to be able to address the different topics. So at least a boy, and a girl, which would make it possible to make some sort of love-triad, but I think at least one more character would be great for giving the player an additional choice. - An interesting part I look forward to, is creating these characters and shaping their attitude toward these different relationships. - As in one might be more willing to just be the lover/a one night stand thing, but willing to share the protagonist, where one is less experienced in sharing a partner, and thereby far more concerned about it. Then another one might even already have a second partner, but still want a serious relationship with the protagonist. - There's a lot of opportunities, and I'm intrigued to explore and create a well rounded story around it.

And again I want to point out that this is just loose thoughts. My ideas mainly comes from a desire to create a story that people can relate to, and immerse themselves into.

Does this answer your question? - Else feel free to elaborate and ask again. =)

This is going to be fairly short, but as much as I'm bad at writing myself (stuck with the school essay-writing mentality), I would love to help - most I could contribute is translating the story to Polish.
