Looking for Partner(s) for a Magical Boy (BxB) VN Project

#1 Post by lilliesandcoffee » Tue Jul 21, 2015 7:59 am

Hi there! :D Thank you for showing interest and clicking on the topic!

Brief rundown:

To put it simply, I'm looking for a partner or two to work on a free VN project with me. Since this is just for fun, I won't be able to pay for your services (sorry :( ) so I'm looking for someone who's willing to be in it for the fun and experience.

Game overview:

The visual novel will follow the adventure of Sugihara Mitsuki, a boy who has to cross-dress as a magical girl in order to fight evil and bring pride to his family line. However, like most heroes, he keeps his identity secret from the public and can only expect some terrible amount of backlash should his true identity be revealed. Long story short, his long-time rival finds out his identity and offers to play a game and if Mitsuki wins, he'll keep mum about his identity. The game's simple: Find out his rival's identity in a three-month time period. So Mitsuki has to get close and befriend the four main suspects (and datable bachelors) to find out which is his rival and make sure his identity stays safe. I'm planning to have three types of endings: a good one where Mitsuki guesses right (regardless of whether or not he has a guy, but it does count), a neutral one where Mitsuki guesses wrong but still has a guy, and a bad one where Mitsuki guesses wrong and does not have a guy. Seeing as how Making sure he wins is the primary objective, I think the endings make sense.

What has been done:

1. Somewhat final character designs for Mitsuki and two other main characters as well as two of the bachelors.
2. Relatively fleshed out rough plan for each bachelor's route. Including backstory and character development.
3. Several events of the main plot has been planned, but still in the very early stages of development.
4. A rough idea on the coding for the gameplay, which will involve being able to choose to go to different locations, buy items, and raise stats (still in debate).

Basically you'll be helping me make a visual novel from almost nothing... sorry ^^"

What I need:

I'm open for any help I can get as I mostly want people to help bounce ideas with. But, I'm more specifically looking for writers (to help me write out the script) and/or artists (to help with BGs and/or GUIs mostly). I'm in a more desperate need for a writer, though, so writers will get more priority. Of course, if anyone comes up to me and offers to help with writing, drawing AND programming, then I'll love that person to death. On another note, please be prepared for some fair amount of work. This is not a short project.

IMPORTANT: I'm currently only looking for one or two partners.

Pretty rough idea on what you'll need to do:

1. Help write a script that hopefully (HOPEFULLY) won't exceed 50,000 words.
2. Help draw BGs (amount is up for negotiation) and/or other art assets.
3. Contribute to development by giving opinions and ideas on what to do and what should be done.

Note that you won't have to do all of the above. Though I do put importance on no. 3. So you'll either be doing 1 and 3 or 2 and 3.

What I can contribute:

I'm quite adept at both writing and creating art assets, and my knowledge of Ren'py is enough for me to code this specific project at least. I'm still a long way off from mastering coding, so I can't do anything too long or complex sadly ^^". I've already decided to do the sprites and CGs and whatever art assets needed (except GUIs, I've never been able to make any passable ones), but I can also help with writing the script/proofreading/programming/whatever else within my power. Also, I'm not against using creative commons if there are some things that neither one of us can provide by ourselves (e.g. music, SFX, etc.)

What you'll get out of this:

Since money is out of the question (again, sorry :( ) I can only hope that the experience and whatever enjoyment you can get from this project is enough of a compensation. But, if you are to one day come to me and ask for help on your own project, then I'll come running to your aid! It's the least I can do since you've helped me with mine. :D Also, if you find that you've enjoyed working with me and what to do so again for other projects, I'm more than happy to become a long-term partner ^^ Basically, I can only pay for your services by offering mine.

Important things to note:

This project won't have any specific deadline so there is no rush to put out a finished product as soon as possible. But, I do hope that we'll be able to finish this before the end of the year. So you can work on this on and off and I'm more than willing to work around our schedules.

This is it for now, if anything else comes to mind I'll be sure to post it. If you're interested in working on this project with me, please leave a comment below or PM me with questions, details, etc. about the game or whatever else you need. I'll try to reply as soon as possible! :)

Best regards,

liliesandcoffee

P.S.: Sorry if this seems a little long, I needed to make sure that I'm clear enough in my explanations.

Found a writer who is interested in working on this project! :D Depending on how our discussion will go, I'll debate whether or not to keep looking for more people.
