(Yuri game jam) Looking for artists and composer

#1 Post by Omega_93 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 5:24 pm

Hello people of Lemmasoft!

I'm a writer looking to put together a team for the upcoming Yuri game jam (and who knows? maybe more in future)
What I'm looking for
To be honest, I'm not particularly picky about what positions I manage to gather for the team (I'd welcome anyone who wants to help out with whatever skills they can offer!) but, in an absolutely ideal world, I would like to recruit some passionate people in these positions (not limited to one, I'm open to anyone who wants to join up!):
Sprite/CG artist
Background artist
Musician/composer
Gui designer (Though I can do that passably well myself if needs be)
Possibly a chibi artist?
And some editors/quality checkers wouldn't go amiss :)

A brief synopsis
"To give a relatively brief summary of the story: "Children of the sun" is set on the fictional planet of Isis, (Prob would be appropriate to make a name change at this point) An advanced, futuristic civilisation, the people of the planet were advanced to the point scientists estimated they would be able to explore the universe within the next generation. However, one fateful night, a comet fell from the sky, and all power in the world got wiped out.

15 years later, the people of the planet live in the shells of their megacities, under the glare of a golden sun that now beats down on their world unchecked. In the mean-time, a religion that had been deemed obsolete by science has risen back to the fore, and the story focuses on the "heir" to that religion, the young Hiti Symeria, and her bodyguard, Illumia.

Knowing that she will have to become the new leader of that religion when she turns 21, Hiti lives her life in a carefree manner, dragging Illumia and a group of friends along with her. However, her happy days cannot last forever, as she is informed of a strange magic known only as "the gold", gruesome murders begin to occur, and the shadow of that day fifteen years ago still looms.

(The relationship that the game focuses on, as you probably guessed, is between Hiti and Illumia)

"

Now, a little overview of the characters
Hiti Symeria (f) 20 - One of the two protagonists for the game, along with Illumia. She is a young Isisian (Name TBC) woman nearing her 21st birthday. The common masses talk of her as one of the most beautiful women alive. She is playful and outgoing, but knows when to be serious. Though she likes poking fun of Illumia and taking the stoic bodyguard out of her comfort zone, she has a thoughtful and tender side to her.
Illumia Lara (f) 20 - Second protagonist. She has been the bodyguard to Hiti for over a decade at the start of the story. She originally enlisted in the military of the Golden faith in order to raise money for her large family, but eventually grew to care for Hiti as her closest friend as well as her sworn shield. Though stoic and proper, she empathises with Hiti enough to allow herself to be dragged along on whatever little amusement the princess comes up with next.
Mimia Nia (f) 24 - Main character. One of Hiti's closest friends, despite living in a slum in the shadow of the great tower Hiti resides in. They met while playing tag one summer, and, though they clashed with competitiveness first, they soon became fast friends, and have remained that way for eight years. In the present, Mimia is a mischievous and playful young woman who is more than happy to humour Hiti in the daytime, despite Tibo's sighs. Hiti looks up to her as someone who taught her a lot of things about life. Wait... who's Tibo?
Tibo Eirie(m) 25 - Tibo is Mimia's boyfriend, whom she met when they were both teenagers. Tibo was a disturbed young man, having seen horrific things in the aftermath of the blackout that the rest of the world seems to have forgotten. In the present, he sees Mimia as his saviour and the most important thing in his life. Despite his somewhat cynical personality, he's gotten past most of his demons and roams around the poorer areas, Mimia in tow, seeking to help people out in any way he can.
The rest of the characters in the story may not require sprites, but it wouldn't hurt to have them regardless. If anyone's interested at this point, I'll be more than happy to give info on the rest of the characters in the cast (of which there are 5).

Assets
While this may sound complex for a game jam, in reality the assets wouldn't be that substantial.
Each of the characters listed above would have sprites, due to their importance to the story. While, as mentioned, the less important characters may not require any.
To make things a little easier, I think a good plan would be to give each character only one pose, then a few expressions to use in the side sprite image.
In terms of backgrounds I may be able to supply some myself, but it would be lovely to have a BG artist to make more customisable options than what I'd be able to come up with :D In terms of actual numbers, I think, feasibly, the story would require at least six backgrounds.
For musical assets, that's really a bit more up in the air. It would really come down to how much an musician would be able to work over the two month period of the jam.
Last but not least, I have an idea for a GUI in case I'm left to do it myself, but it would be easier to just discuss that with anyone interested in teaming up :)

I know there's a hell of a lot of missing information here, but if you have any questions about the setting, assets or the scope, please feel free to ask me about it :P

So yeah, that's the gist of it :) If you're interested in teaming up, or would simply like more details on the story, please contact me in this thread, by private message, or on skype at: alexkeevill93
Thanks - Alex/Omega
