That being said, I am not an artist, nor am I a programmer of any sort, which is what I desperately need help with. But, before I get into what I need, I might as well explain my concept of the game and the characters.
The concept, I think, is very simple. This story, like many of which I like to read, is definitely going to be more character-driven than it is plot-driven. However, this doesn't mean it'll have a thin plot, but it won't be doused in action and magnificent plot twists. So, the story will follow our main girl through her senior year of high school and she resolves to start a band with her best friend. It basically just have her realize things about herself she's been pushing away while she tries to "make something" of herself with her band, because in actuality, she has no idea what she's going to do with her life and it examines her relationships with her father, mother, step-mother, best friend, band members, and herself
So, here are the characters!
Rayna Phillips is our nineteen-year-old protagonist who is a loud, fun-loving girl who has lived a life of hard work, working hard, and even more hard work. She is restless for adventure, for something to do, for life itself, and has become reckless. She spaces out in class, zones out at work, and constantly day dreams of doing something big. Rayna is more of an "act first, think later" kind of girl, who can be very selfish -- she rarely thinks about the consequences her actions can have on herself and others, and does things mostly just to do them. She is stubborn and blunt and often perplexes herself when she thinks too hard into things and her feelings, especially.
She doesn't like to admit her feelings of sadness and anger, thinking of it like a weakness, and instead internalizes it all and bottles it up. Rayna is outgoing and friendly, but often pushes people into things they don't want to do without realizing it and has a problem with the concept of giving others their personal space. As for her living situation, Rayna lives in a small, one-story home with her ex-musician father, Liam, and step-mother, Julie and she works part-time at Julie's diner. Rayna is best friends with her father, who often acts more like a friend to her than an authority figure, and sees Julie as her mother, rather than a step-mother. As for Rayna's real mother, Harriet, she left Liam and Rayna when Rayna was young, and is a very sore subject for Rayna, and one that proves to still bother her to this day and something that, in the game, will be explored more in depth. Rayna becomes the lead singer and the lead guitarist of her band
Faelynn Matthews is Rayna's best friend since middle school and next door neighbor of eight years. In contrast to Rayna, Faelynn is reserved and quiet and often finds talking to others physically exhausting and wholly unnecessary. Though he doesn't mean to be as standoffish as he is, people often stray away from Faelynn who can shut people up with a death glare and a whispered yell. People often wonder how it is someone as quiet as Faelynn became friends with Rayna, and if someone has the gall to ask, Faelynn just replies, "because she's straight forward and fun" He likes that she doesn't sugar coat her words or dance around things and always (usually) says what's on her mind. Unlike the stereotype holds, Faelynn doesn't hold a secret long-lasting love toward Rayna, but, if you choose, then he can eventually fall for her. Faelynn becomes the bass guitarist of the band
Max Sheppard is a friendly, excitable guy who is a born people-pleaser and often does things for the sake of doing them for the experience. Max hates to disappoint or sadden others and is often quick to agree to things just so someone doesn't get angry or sad. He is friendly and outgoing and enjoys talking to others and making people happy. He is a natural performer and draws people in with his kind nature and naiveté. Max eventually becomes the drummer of the band
Hatori Chen is a smart, reclusive young man who is faithful and determined in his practices and to his family and friends. Hardworking and dedicated, he is a dependable and supportive person, if not too much. He, although kind, is very awkward in social conventions, and often stumbles over his words and struggles to say what he actually means in the way he means it. He tries hard to relate to others, but often comes up short and gets extremely embarrassed. He becomes the keyboard/pianist of the band
Lucy Shapiro is an out-spoken, brash girl, who is sarcastic and nosey, and always likes to be involved something, whether she plays a big part in it or not. Despite this, she likes staying out of drama and just likes to watch from the sidelines, but, if need be, she will come in and rip you up one side and down the other. She has little patience for others and likes things to be done now and efficiently and gets annoyed easily by others. Despite all this, she does have a kind heart and once she becomes friends with you, she will stick with you for life
I have more characters, Liam, her father, Julie, her step-mother, and Harriet, her birth mother, but we can square those characters out later. For now, I do need an artist for all of the characters above, but, here's the thing:
I only have a specific design laid out in my head for Rayna. Everyone else can be taken with your creative liberties. Therefore, if you have a character you haven't used, but want to see used, feel free to suggest them for a character and I would be forever grateful! I do need an artist to specifically draw Rayna for me, however, as I cannot draw. If you message me, I can tell you what she looks like, and then from there, it's all you. However, everyone else can be completely up to you!
I'm also going to need backgrounds, though those would be simple enough, just message me for more details, but basically, just a bedroom, school, hallway, diner, etc, etc
Unfortunately, I cannot pay, and I'm really sorry about that. All I can offer to you as a reward is a job well done, satisfaction, and literally all the credit in the world. I'm only writing this as well as coming up with the ideas. Everything else is everyone else who will be getting a healthy dose of credit. I also need some help with programming and working around with Ren'py, so if anyone could help me there, I would be forever grateful.
I know this is a lot, but I hope people are down for the characters and ideas and hopefully, this can be something that can eventually come to fruition!
