Looking for artist(s) for unnamed but written project (Sprites, CG, BG, GUI)

#1 Post by PetiteLapin »

Okay so, I'm quite new to this so.

I'm looking for someone else to join me in this project, partly because I think it'd be nice to do it with someone, but also because I really want this to look lovely and I'm just really average at art. I can edit backgrounds into looking good enough, but people and items require a bit more expertise. I'm really open to sharing some of the script writing as well, I've written all the main points, but some character interactions are open to writing if there's an artist out there who'd like to get involved in the writing as well! It's not necessary, I am happy to write it all, I just want to get the code to work first. The game is currently unnamed but maybe we can come up with something together

About the game
In the beginning, the player character has to begin life in a new place, finding how to look after herself and her sister after a tragic event. Depending on the skills and choices made by the player, different options are available for the later game, such as getting scholarships, meeting mentors, going to fashion shows, and discovering mysterires. The 'romance/friend' options slightly change the game genre depending on which routes are chosen, the contents varies between sci-fi, to very light horror, to slice of life, etc. The game plays through 4 years by month, building stats and making choices each month for the upcoming one.

How far is the progress?

So far, the entire game is plotted except a few later conversations which are flavour text rather than substance.
The first 3 years/36 turns are scripted almost entirely, I believe I have a few minor games in character conversations for a few routes, but nothing major. The last year is not written yet, but all the major plot points are expanded and most of the minor ones too.
Coding: the stat building, viewing and calculating screens are done and the first year is written into the script and set up to work, just needs the changes in visuals added in once I have those. My next task is to put the rest of the script into code and make sure its all going smoothly! I also need to set up the GUI modifications still.
Art: I have example images that I use for coding sprites going in and out. They can also be used to draw characters based from, but I'm not stuck to the designs in most cases, there's a few important features for characters but it's overall not something I'm too vexed over if you have any changes you'd like to make. I have character descriptions as well, but again, I'm not too stuck on them!

Deadlines:

Obviously, I'm doing this as a hobby project, so it's not the kind of thing I want to set deadlines on, but I do want to make sure that everyone is trying to get it finished when they have some free time for it and motivated to keep going. If you like deadlines, we can both set them and work to specific time frames, but I'm also a student so I mostly work on this in the evenings when I have free time. If you don't like deadlines, there's no need for them, just stay in contact about whats going on and update on how far along things are :)

Payment:

Again, obviously this is a hobby project, so I have very little funds to put into this! If we get along well and talk a lot about the project, I'll probably offer to cashapp you a coffee a few times, but that's about the extent of my funds for this. In future, I'm hoping to commercialising it, but it really depends on the finished quality of the game, so we can talk about that too. I can offer my coding or writing skills if you're working on a project that needs to be put together, I'm not advanced or anything but I can put together a visual novel well enough, so I'm happy to talk about that too :)

What am I looking for?

Mostly I'm looking for an artist at the moment, for CGs, sprites, GUI and backgrounds. I'm open to more than one artist, because thats a lot for one person! But I'd really like someone who wants to be involved with this as a main part of the creating process as well. I will be looking for soundtrack artist later too!
There's no bad warnings to put in it, there's a little bit of horror, but it's almost entirely implied. There's no sexual scenes, there's one or two implied scenes but nothing in the script or art that's sexual, all very PG-15. It's very tame in terms of warning labels,! For sprites, I have 11 characters in total, one main, one secondary, three mentor characters, 1 misc character and 5 friend/romance options. These will all need a base sprite, a few emotions and 2 different outfits for summer and winter. The 5 friend/romance options need an additional outfit for a specific date. Again, I have some ideas, but I'm not stuck to many of them. The secondary and main characters also need another outfit option. I'm not sure exactly how many CGs right now, at least 7, but there's definitely space for a lot more. I have the descriptions for these as well but I'd rather not crowd the post too much! If you can draw animals that's a huge plus, but I'm happy to find someone else to draw those specifically!

So, hopefully that answers some questions, but feel free to ask anything else! Sorry if I've missed anything, I'm new to the forum and new to talking to other people about VNs

I'm a hobby artist looking to expand my horizons with a lower-stakes project. This sounds interesting and I'm down to talk details. I do work full-time as a graphic designer at my company as well, so I'm familiar with other areas of design if you need help with GUI art.

This is a link to some personal art I've done: https://layang.carrd.co/
