Gamebooks

#1 Post by Riviera » Thu May 05, 2011 12:42 am

I'm not sure if people consider them VNs or not, since they are more like digital versions of D&D or (insert your favorite tabletop game here) than the VNs most people know of. Especially since so many of them were and are in actual paperback form as well.

The only ones I know of so far are on iDevices: Imaginary Range, Fabled Lands, Fighting Fantasy, Gamebook Adventures, Arcana Agency, Star Breed, The Goblin Forest and The Labyrinth.

There were two of them sold as e-books called Million Little Mistakes and Pretty Little Mistakes as well. It'd be awesome if more like that came out.

I'd like to find more of them, and for PC, DS or PSP as well, but I don't honestly know of a lot of these type of systems so I'm not even really sure of what to look for. I used to adore CYOA books, but I don't think any of them were made into digital format. I know of the Lone Wolf series, but haven't been able to find any of the books or pdfs (or games if they exist).

Here's some resources I found from a web search:

* The Fighting Fantasy Project at http://ffproject.com . As far as I can tell, this site collects Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, and enables them to work through a browser.

* http://www.fightingfantasygamebooks.com is an official site that offers professional and fan-made adventures. It mentions a DS game that was published not long ago, and a Playstation Mini (for when the PSP/PS3 Store works again).

* For more general gamebooks meant to be read with a browser, see http://www.onlinegamebooks.com

I'm sure there's some notable sites I have missed.
