Baldur's Gate 2

I just thought I'd bring up this game to people's attention. This is a game that has all the elements of a "normal" game such as diablo 2, BUT with dating sim elements in it. You can even have a small triangle in it (either you and two different girls, or you, another guy, and a girl). Admitedly, the romance in the game is nowhere near that of a good dating sim (the fact that the characters can be hard to love do to incredible angst might have something to do with it), but I wanted to point that game out as a way that people can mix together game + dating sim. If they had worked on the romance quite a bit more, they'd of had a milestone in gaming history for sure on their hands.

Anyways, I suggest checking the game out! I guess there are other games like that such as Harvest Moon (and some other game I hear that is like harvest moon), but BG2 just stuck with me so well because the game is so freakin immersive. Plus I prefer harvesting orcs over potatoes.

Personally, I think if I were ever to make a dating sim, I'd veer away from the common "Who wants to be a millionaire" approach to dating sims and go for a more of dating sim + game. That's a lot harder through to make of course.

Hmm haha.
Player: "I... I... love you Iriko. Please don't go to America!!"
Game Host: Is that your final answer?
Player: ...Yes

Game Host: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm sorry.

BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE YOU GET THE GIRL AND NOT ME!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS KYOSUKE, YOU GET THE GIRL AND WIN A FREE SEX SCENE!

Well, Baldur's Gate II is a very good game, even for those that are not into dating simulators.

I have loved it alot because I'm into roleplaying with all of my soul (well... Hmmm... Maybe just a bit, actually) but I have to agree on the point where the dating sim elements are well-employed inside the game.

Of course, you can very easily see scenes like this:

--------------
Main Character: "AHA! Take this, Demon chief and all of your posse... FIREBALL!!!"
*KABOOM!**BLAAAM**WHACK!*
Demon Chief: "Thou shalt not have challenged me, mortal!"
Main Character: "SHADDAAAP!!!!"
*WHACK!**SMASH!**BIFF!**CRACK!**KAPUMPF!*
Another Character: "Chain Lightning!"
*KABLAAAAAMMMM!!!!*
Main Character: "Ah... Finally, we're done... Now, we're better flee from the Temple of Boiling Blood before we actually slip on the bl--"
*A romantic soundtrack settles in*
Female Character: "Oh, Main Character, I've been thinking about it all the time and I think I love you, take me here and now!"
Main Character: "AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGHHH!!!!!!!!!"
-----------------------

But even this is pretty funny indeed :D

I don't know about Harvest Moon, however, I think I heard it and maybe even have a vague idea on what it's about, but I might be wrong.

There aren't many games with dating sim elements inside, it's more likely for something to be either one or the other thing, sure thing BG II demonstrates that a mix can be very good. There have been fan sites that have come up with custom Romances with other NPCs (i.e. other characters that usually weren't available for romance), some of which were very interesting.

If there's one thing to complain about in Baldur's Gate, it's the lack of depth in Romance if your main character is a girl. Aside from the fact you have only ONE character available in this case (and it's such a cocky one, too...), it's not just as developed and well-constructed, not to mention you can only dream of having the 'love adventures' you could have if you were a guy.

No, I'm not talking about red light material, I'm talking about extra side quests

Thousand Arms is another game with dating sim elements thrown inside. It is an RPG.
The dating sim feature allows you to meet numerous girls within or outside your party at a certain place or point in the game, you can then take them to an area of your choice e.g. a restaurant. They then proceed to ask you questions, each girl asks different things and each expect different things from you due to the great variety of personalities and age ranges. Some of the things they expect from you or suddenly come and ask you can be really funny. Also you can buy gifts and give them the gifts you purchase, certain girls like certain things and there are a variety of gifts you can choose from. Their affection for you is recorded in a little status bar during dating mode, but I don't think there are any concluding sequences specific to each girl in terms of the dating si-degame as far as I know. And there are even fun/cute mini-games that correspond with each girl, e.g. a cooking or sweeping game. Aswell as this the characters are very nicely illustrated and have voice overs. I love this game, if you haven't played it already you really should in my opinion ^^

Ah, yes! I've heard of it, even read a couple reviews.

Basically, Thousand Arms is built like an RPG, the dating sim elements are implemented to allow getting more 'intimate' with the girl characters.

However, differently from an actually dating simulator, I don't think there are actually ending love scenes or the like if you 'win' a girl; the intimacy level measures how much she can empower your weapons and spells.

Indeed a very funny way to deal with character development :D

Thousand Arms sounds a lot like Brave Soul. It's an RPG with dating functions, you have sidekicks and all sidekicks are girls and then you can develop relationships with them. I don't have enough energy right now to describe it in greater detail but you get it don't you? ;D
