deIz (a freeware VN)

#1 Post by gekiganwing » Mon Aug 29, 2011 8:35 pm

Was browsing the VNDB this morning when I noticed a freeware western visual novel called deIz. As far as I know, it hasn't been mentioned on this forum, so I made this topic.

deIz is described as "A short visual novel about a high-school boy admiring an indie film director who attends the same school as him. Will he be able to tell her his true feelings?" For more details, see here: http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/other/deiz/5995/ The VN is hosted on Gamejolt, which is an archive for all kinds of independent games and works in progress. I don't know if the creator is active here.

Oh, I know that guy. He does some great animation stuff on Deviantart http://mikeinel.deviantart.com/. I didn't know he had made a game, though I did know he liked VNs and Katawa Shojo.

That guy sounded so familiar and I was trying to put my finger on it.... Where did I hear of him?
Then I searched and realized he's in the studio that did some work on Zenith Chronicles sprites! (I think someone else in the studio did the sprites, though)

I love his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRkgH7Uu-hA

I'll need to play the game now.

Game has absolutely great visual style, but is eerily quiet.

Additionally, it serves as a warning regarding arbitrary choices. It's incredibly #@£ing annoying to track down an ending when there are about 72 different choice combinations and at no point to the choices give any clear indication as to which ending they're leading to. At least this game only has about an hour of reading, all routes combined.

For the team on this piece, I recommend www.incompetech.com for royalty free music you can use.
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

I don't think the team is here though.

I do followed his updates in dA, and before I noticed he was working on a game, he even let us see some teaser during his livestream. I can tell you, he's an awesome man, I was able to see some glimpse of his files in the PC and he was making an animation (of the game I think) that time. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

And yeah, he is really popular after making 'Draw with Me'.

This is an awesome game, people. Go play it (if you're old enough!)

Extra Gallery pic, row 2 column 1 is the best
Still missing 3 CGs though :(

Well, mikeinel did post his the walkthrough for the game in dA. And perhaps it's because of the bugs too.

And pffft, I don't have to wait until I'm old enough, I'm a fast learner.

It was a surprisingly good VN, but I definitely agree that the lack of any sound (music or effects) made this an unusual game to play. I hope the next one has music, but it is still worth playing. Great art and surprising twists (seriously, what the heck on some of the endings??)

Do wish! xD I can't wait for new deIz, with the voice acting and original music, plus new characters! But what I'm just looking forward too is the new side story, I hope..

I didn't knew there was no music since I am always on mute.

As of recently, Mike's been uploading previews of the game again. I think he's remaking it and adding another character.

Not so sure though oAo;;
See ya.

So...what's going on with Delz, exactly? *confused because links aren't working and there's not much info here...*
