Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
So, what do you guys think of the upcoming PS3/XBOX360 game FF XIII-II? Looking forward to it? Dreading it? Also some news, square enix has deciced to re-make FFX for the PS3, thoughts about this?
My thoughts~
Although I haven't played FF XIII yet ( PS3 on the way!) I am really looking forward to its sequel. One reason why: Multiple endings! Yay~! You can also *sometimes* control what Serah's reactions to stuff is, like a visual novel.
Anywho, on to FFX remake! Honestly...I'm not looking forward to this, one reason why: I already own the PS2 version, I love it and think it should be left the hell alone! The graphics are already beautiful, the story line already amazing, why remake it? Just so it will be HD? Pfft! I think if Square Enix should remake any game it should be.....Come on fans of FF you should know the answer! Final Fantasy VII! Actually, I wouldn't mind a remake of VIII either...Still even if they do some day remake both of them, I still have a feeling I'll like the originals more, I mean, it isn't just pretty graphics that makes a game better or even 'great', its the story line that will stand the test of time. Its the experience as you discover these new worlds and meet new friends. Its the joy of playing these games that make it great, that is why these PS1 and PS2 games are classics. Maybe Square Enix should remember that.
Thats what I think any way. What do you guys think??

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
Hmm, I was happy to hear FFX was getting a remake. I love that game so very much, so any attention to it makes me happy, and if it gets new content I would be on Cloud 9 ... But of course, you do bring up a good point. Going back and retouching stuff is NOT always a good thing. If they George Lucas it up, I will be nerd-raging something fierce. But if they ... for instance ... redub all of Tidus' lines ... I might be unusually receptive.
As for FF13-2 ... I was looking forward to it until I found out that the main character is Serah. And now ... not so much. I don't hate Serah (I don't even KNOW her), I just hate that it's not Lightening as the lead, since that's what the first footage implied (and she is on the damn logo). And it also seems to kick her out of the picture because all the male Japanese developers would rather focus on the blushing school girl instead of the hardened female warrior. That kinda offends me. It's another step backwards, just like FFX-2. But I did play FFX-2 as a game and tried to pass off the stupidification of the characters to being culture differences, but it's true it was a bastardization and I just wanted to spend a little more time in that world. *sigh* I fear they'll bastardize FF13, too. But I didn't have much an investment in it anyway ... I think the only thing keeping me interest at all is I want to know who the dude is on the logo next to Lightening, who is supposed to be her rival.
Edit: If you haven't played FF13, should this thread be spoiler-free?

@Aleema
Aww~! Thats sweet of you, but I already know how it goes because of wiki. Which I think it some cases, yeah it ruins your experence of playing the game, but its not really a big deal to me. Anywho!
It is sort of odd that Lighting isn't the main character, but Serah may become a good heroine in the long run. After all, as you said, we don't know her yet. I'm also really interested in Lightings rival, maybe there'll be romance involved? ( Must make up pairing if not!!) FFX-2 was an 'okay' game. It was fun, and it did have lots of replay value, but I just don't like how they made Yuna into sort of a- as my friend says- 'whore'. I wouldn't go that far, and it does make sense why she would have the new outfit ( I really wouldn't expect her to wear the same kimono for two years!) still, I thought her and Riku's outfit were very...Skanky? Actually, its almost like Square Enix were channeling Charles Angels when they designed the whole game...
I think I'm the only person who actually liked Tidus' voice. I mean yeah, it was annoying at first. But in the long run, I really think it fit the character.

Haha, I don't hate Tidus' voice as some do, but it's easily the worst of the lot. And after replaying the game so many times, it does start to stick out like splintered wood. But people hated Yuna's voice, etc, I just didn't understand it. I thought the voice acting was really great all around! (auron was my favorite)
As for Serah, excuse me for being a curmudgeon, but I doubt she's going to float my boat. =\ She has a good English voice actress, and she isn't totally spineless and reminds me of Yuna, but she still looks manufactured to be cutesy, and that doesn't sit well with me.
And of course. As soon as I saw this:

I shipped them. But alas, the newest trailer paints him as the cruel big baddy. He's just a Sephiroth now.
Also, Snow now looks like this:

I'm not sure what to think. I like them both, but they're 2 different chars. I guess he got such a bad rep they needed to rebrand him. I admit, he does seem an iota cooler, if only because I can only hear him whining about Serah in the other look. But even with this redo, their pairing still creeps me out.

I don't love it but I also don't hate it. If it's FF, I play it, bad or good. As for FFX remake, I'm not really ecstatic. Why they have to make FFX remake? Only several years have passed since the release of FFX-International and FFX-2 (and they are on PS2). Better make PS1 FF remake or a complete 3D remake of NES/SNES FF.
FFVII is the first FF that comes to my mind when talking about remakes.

For some reason I never got to play Final Fantasy X, but I LOOOOOOVE Final Fantasy X-2 which introduced me to the series more than anything else (I was like 5 when I was playing some game with Cloud in it, and all I remember is not having a memory card to save anything and red flashy lights that I thought would kill me if I wasn't fast enough to leave the area).

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
I loved FFX but I don't love FFX-2 as much. I think I got bored with FFX-2 (and then our PS2 started malfunctioning and so I never did get to finish it). I like FF13's story, though I was a bit disappointed at how linear the game was. I'm looking forward to FF13-2 since they said it had multiple endings and the map won't be as linear...I hope.
But yeah, I have to agree that I'd prefer they make a remake of FFVII or FFVIII since those games are a lot older than FFX. Though at the same time I don't want them to destroy or ruin the essence that made those games so good despite the 'poor quality' of the graphics and the simplicity of the gameplay and I'm worried that making a remake would do that.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
FFX remake? Retouched graphics? Tidus in HD? Why not? Although I'd prefer if they expand on the world more -- I like FFX's world, it's so...different from the standard medieval European-ish fantasy settings. Since it's the first FF I actually finished, it holds a special place in my gamer heart (that, and I took time to learn Suteki da Ne and Theme of Zanarkand on piano
) And I actually liked Tidus. FFX-2...now...erm...okay, the 'Spira after Sin's final defeat' held lots of promise, but the gameplay change and the narrative just...fell flat on me. I mean, sure, Tidus and Yuna finally got the happy ending they deserve (if you get the best ending anyway) but the rest of the game...not really
As for FFXIII...I haven't played the game, though I dearly wanted to
Still, the internet leaves one quite immersed in spoilers and such, so yeah
I don't mind Serah being in the spotlight, as long as they don't drive her straight into Sue territory. Noel looks like an interesting character, but so far he...looks a bit 'flat' to me. Now, the plot. Time travel. O...kay. I'm curious as to how they'll treat the theme of time travel in this story, but it's a quite complex concept and I hope it doesn't become a trainwreck. As for Gaius/Caius...hoo boy, I was rejoicing when they had Liam O'Brien for the role. I was hoping he'd use his Kain voice, but still!
Another thing that I'm looking forward to is that players can now explore the world of Pulse. I like games with detailed worlds, and this seems to be a treat.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
Squeenix's recent track record has left me with a sour taste.
I honestly just want them to let the Final Fantasy franchise die with some dignity, rather than go out in a bloody mess.
Final Fantasy XIII was really, really atrocious and really hurt me as a fan of the series, it was the first time in the series I genuinely hated the entire cast, from Snow's goody goody heroics to Hope's "I SAW YOU FALL OFF THE BRIDGE WITH MY MUM! YOU KILLED HER NOW I'LL KILL YOU" bullshit. Won't even comment on the god awful combat system, and that the whole thing felt like one of those nightmares where you're walking down a hallway that never ends, except I paid for it.
Final Fantasy X-2 proved that they can ruin the story of it's predecessor, and I believe they will with the new instalment, not that Final Fantasy XIII had a good story to begin with, all it had was a good setting.
The only Final Fantasy on the horizon that looks like it's even worth my money is Type-0, unfortunately I can't read moon runes, and there's been no confirmed western release date.
Hopefully we'll get one, but I'm not holding my breath.
As for re-releasing Final Fantasy X in HD, I don't really care. I have fond memories of the game, but unless they are going to tweak the Sphere Grid a little bit, maybe make Kimarhi a little less useless, and give me online Blitzball it isn't getting my money.
Final Fantasy XIV was just a joke, the amount of buyers remorse I got from that was a joke, they didn't even use lube as they raped my wallet with that shitty excuse for an MMO.
All in all Final Fantasy is dead to me, they haven't had a worthwhile release in the franchise in at least 10 years except for XI which they killed with the expansions, I'm surprised the FF franchise is still going.

Well, there ARE multiple endings, right? Maybe in one he turns good? Hopefully...I mean come on, he's sort of perfect for Lighting, they both have pretty hair. Purple and Pink~! Awwwww~!Aleema wrote:trailer[/url] paints him as the cruel big baddy. He's just a Sephiroth now.![]()
@Cinerious
Hmm...I've never really thought that they might add more to the FFX world, but they should! Spira has to be one of my all time favorite settings in Final Fantasy, so I would enjoy exploring more of it.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII-II? ALSO! Final Fantasy X remake?
I don't really agree with most people's complaints over Final Fantasy XIII. I enjoy a cinematic styled game, and I love the combat system. I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII-2, they're listening to the fans and basing it more on what they said they want. I loved Final Fantasy X-2's female lead. It drew me in to the series more, showing me girls can kick some butt. I love the Garment Grid System, I even used it when I was like really little and I was playing with some boys with stick guns. I said "Oh.. I don't get a gun? Okay, I'll use my Garment Grid! Gunner mode!"
It was funny because they said I could use it and wanted to use it shortly after, but I said nope there's only one and it's mine. Anywho! I never got to play the classic hits of Final Fantasy, but I love the newer ones closer to my generation. My generation also loves it because we broke into a discussion over it one time in class. I think it's mostly people who played the older games and expect something improved from yet similar to the older games.

Like it or not, Final Fantasy is still a big thing. Good or bad, lots of people will still buy it (as long as it's a GAME, not a poor replica of sci-fi Aliens movie). After all, even if the gameplay is bad, FF graphics is always stellar.Meatpie wrote:All in all Final Fantasy is dead to me, they haven't had a worthwhile release in the franchise in at least 10 years except for XI which they killed with the expansions, I'm surprised the FF franchise is still going.

i still play play ff... though sticking to the classic ones(FF7, FF4, etc.). I stopped playing recent FF games after playing FF1? Revenant wings, i wasn't particularly disappointed but i was utterly confused on what's what and the ending hadn't given any glory at all.

"Good or bad"
People who purchase bad games knowingly are cancer that is perpetuating the downfall of gaming, just like the people who garble down all the DLC big companies throw out for their latest release. Speaking of DLC, Ultima Weapon is confirmed for Day 1 DLC, for people who pre-ordered the game. People who don't pre-order have to pay extra.
Along with a whole bunch of weapons and costumes. That alone is enough to make the game a heap of shit, if people are forced to pay extra for things that should be on the disc, anyone who buys this game and it's DLC are literally saying "Squeenix, I want your faecal matter in my mouth right this instant."
I don't understand.(as long as it's a GAME, not a poor replica of sci-fi Aliens movie).
If the gameplay is bad, the game is shit. Always. Hence Final Fantasy XIII being complete utter garbage. After all, even if the gameplay is bad, FF graphics is always stellar.
