Anyway, after 5 failed downloads and almost a week's worth of waiting, I have finally gotten insani's demo of True Tears and played it.

I cannot believe the awesomeness that is this game!

Admittedly, it plays on just about every high school romantic cliche that exists, but who cares? XD I loved it all - the concept, the gameplay, the story, the graphics, the translation - everything! It's incredibly fun. I spent hours exhausting every single event in the demo, just so that I could experience more of it. THIS is what I envision to be the perfect example of an anthology in the VN genre. It's like the VN equivalent of the Salad Days manga.

I can't wait for a full translation to come out so that I can buy the commercial version!

Has anyone else played it? What are your opinions of it? And who are your favourite girls so far? (I really enjoyed Mako the Goofball. She's hilariously insane. Reminds me of Haruhi for some strange reason. Just like Rui reminds me of Mikuru.)

Well, the full game translation won't be from insani, they closed the project with the demo (and most of their other ones as well). So there's no real chance of a translation.

As far as I've been able to find out, Broccoli's gonna do it. So hopefully by the middle of next year, latest, we'll see an commercial English copy of the game.

Hmmm, according to the very same article... it was posted on 2006-02-13, and TT was to come out in March? If they meant March 2006 (nothing to suggest the contrary), it's way past the deadline. The anime is due in 2007, as far as the text goes...

No, Broccoli co-developed the original Japanese game, which was released earlier this year. They're not releasing an English language version (Broccoli USA doesn't intend to publish PC or console games), although they've considered licensing such rights to interested publishers.

It's hard to say. I didn't find the demo particularly engaging (far too many cliches and recycled events), but I'd still be interested in checking out a full version.

Yeah, I just checked the True Tears homepage. Apparently, Broccoli did release a Japanese version of the game out in March, but to date there has been nothing said of an English version. Darn. I really hope this gets translated, though.

Unfortunately, I don't see this happening anytime soon. Well, back to finding the intricate details and world-changing philosophic ideas, coupled with an emotional plotline and wonderful graphics in Water Closet for now

This is going to require me to tinker with the language settings, though, isn't it? *grumbles about needing to get around to setting up an account on XP for that sorta thing*

I found the demo rather cool with language settings actually ... Namely : nothing to change ^^

Ok, I tried this a few days ago (multiple times) and wanted to post my reaction ^.^. It's true that it's rather cliché, overall... but I find a few of the girls to be quite original :
As for the gameplay, it took me some time to understand what was going on XD... It's interesting... but I don't know how great it is. It looks a bit easy since you can directly choose who to pursue, yet there are still choices in the scenes which makes things just as hard as the usual VN/Dating sim. The mandatory events remind me of bombs in Tokimemo.
Tell me if I'm wrong but it seems that the first scene of a girl you haven't seen yet will always be her intro scene, whenever you pick her. But then, the scenes will depend on the regular order. Conclusion : getting interested in a girl from the beginning rewards you with quite a few scenes.
