Hey, what was the first visual novel adventure game?

If anyone knows, I would like to know just what was the first visual novel from japan to use the whole, exhaust all possibilities to continue in the game. It actually works out good, and I have fun playing them. I'm playing two of them right now, both for sega CD: Snatcher, and Space Adventure Cobra Legendary Bandit, I like Snatcher more, but Cobra is great too.
