HTML/Javascript version of Ren'Py?

#1 Post by the_hack »

Hi everyone, Python and Ren'Py are awesome, but I'm developing something for the web.

Please don't destroy me if this has already been asked: I have discovered WebStory Engine. Are there other Ren'Py-like frameworks for javascript/HTML I should be aware of? Does anyone have experience using WebStory Engine?

One more question in which I will completely out myself as a newbie: What are the key differences between a Visual Novel and an Adventure Game?

If I answered myself, I'm guessing Adventure Games are more interactive, but is that right?

Thanks for your knowledge!

Tim

An adventure game usually involves some sort of player-controlled character movement, item finding and puzzle solving, whereas a visual novel is usually "on rails" except for dialog choices or puzzles at fixed points. Phoenix Wright would classify as an adventure game because it also had collecting evidence in different locations. Monkey Island had walking around and item combining, etc.

I'm not a big fan of point and click adventures, but I do like pseudo-adventure-games as long as the exploration isn't tedious. Something like 999: 9 Doors would definitely float my boat, so to speak.

I found some other options and I thought I'd post them here for posterity:
