If My Heart Had Wings
Big news on the ero-forums today - apparently a new official translator has rolled into town, bringing with it a very recent Japanese title.
If My Heart Had Wings
Looks pretty, although not really my kind of game. I'll probably go for it anyway just to have a better look at what more-modern games are doing, although I don't expect to be interested enough to 100% it.

I hadn't noticed what was the game before I saw the pictures. Kono Oozora ni Tsubasa wo Hirogete, wow! That one won the game of the year award in Getchu, MoeNovel sure is aiming high. Still, I don't think it's as good as older Nakige, but I might play to see.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
According to what I just read on JAST's forums, this VN got good ratings on Amazon.co.jp, Moe Game Award and Erogamescape (NSFW).
The statements on Play Asia make it clear that it will be a Windows game on DVD-ROM as well as paid downloads. $35 US doesn't seem bad for a recent localized computer game. Hopefully the physical disc won't include frustrating DRM.
If the English writing in the full retail release is at least competent, then I will strongly consider buying it. From what I read on the second page of the MangaGamer forum thread, there is reason to be optimistic. Kouryuu, who is a spokesperson for MG, said the following:

The people at Pulltop have not yet made an all-ages version of Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete. There isn't currently a port for consoles or other devices. I will wait and see what sort of content is and isn't in the full version. We're working on getting the webpage for it up on our website right now, actually. So you'll be able to buy it directly from us in a few days. Once it's ready we'll be making a post with more details about the game. For one thing, the translation is being handled by Active Gaming Media [AGM], the same company that worked on Demon's Souls and No More Heroes.
...1) Yes, it will be all-ages. We informed AGM how the visual novel audience feels about the removal of erotic content, but after discussing our advice with their client, they decided to make it all-ages in order to try and approach a wider market.
2) As for the demo version currently available on their website--they have informed us that what is currently on the site is NOT the final version of the scripts. The scripts are currently still undergoing review and editing.
Re: If My Heart Had Wings
Dammit why do things happen when I'm asleep? I was hitting Refresh practically all day yesterday to no avail. So this was Mangagamer's surprise hint project.
Okay.
Okay.
Same here. Usually modern games have MASSIVE panoramic panning CGs and backgrounds, and fully animated sex scenes. It's surreal, compared to the minimalist lowres Nscripter games with typewriter font just only a few years ago. Though this title will be all-ages.I'll probably go for it anyway just to have a better look at what more-modern games are doing, although I don't expect to be interested enough to 100% it.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
As far as I can tell, Moenovel and MangaGamer are two separate companies. I don't know if this project has anything to do with MG's secret worksafe title that had been announced in early March 2013.
I'm worried about the following things:
* Rushing products out the door. It would be a bad idea to release If My Heart Had Wings soon, unless the company can assure fans that its full translation will be good and consistent. (I seem to recall that MG released its first few visual novels in quick succession, and their early translations aren't easy to read and enjoy.)
* Excessive or unjustified censorship. I don't mind a worksafe version of an adult VN. I have purchased Aselia the Eternal and a number of other games knowing that they began life as adult products. But if the NSFW content was the only compelling aspect of the visual novel, then it shouldn't be sold in a worksafe format.
Some of the adult games which Hirameki International released in worksafe form are still genuinely compelling. But the company probably went too far in censoring blood in Anima Mundi Dark Alchemist, which is supposed to be a horror story about vampires. Hourglass of Summer is one story that didn't need sex scenes, but a number of the company's other products seem a bit hollow without them.
Also, while trying to appeal to a wider fanbase is not inherently bad, there are limits. This is a niche product. It might find an audience willing to buy through video game digital distribution services. There are benefits to making an English version which can be sold outside of fandom-specific retail sites. But this isn't a product that a company could expect to sell more than a few thousand copies. It's for fans who like cute stories, boy x girl pairings, and who don't expect complex gameplay. (And even if creators make a Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete animated series in the near future, I don't think anyone will make a thoroughly-rewritten, G-rated adaptation for television in other nations.)
* Getting feedback. Some years ago, it might have been enough to create a website with nice pictures and a modest amount of information. But these days, it's important to interact with fans and customers. People expect that companies are active on Facebook, Twitter, official forums, and more.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
Hmmm, you're right, the domain is owned in Japan, so it's Mangagamer all over again.
Just started playing it, it's gorgeous. Lots of ATL movement, and every graphic looks like a CG (kinda like what Errant Heart was going for). I've been working on ATL tracepath technique last year, and to pan a bg properly without it looking blurry you need to start with a 4000x4000 dimension graphic to begin with (No wonder I'm doing Mobile now). Not to mention the delay in loading. Here, it's just so smooth.
Yah, HD games need more interlocking between artist and director roles (or better yet, have artist be not just artistic director but overall scene director as well, like a manga). Having an artist ship you pre-cropped images just won't do, you need the full resolution and even extra space for scene bleeding.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
I usually am not one to cry over removed features but I really don't like the idea of removing the nsfw scenes (especially for the download version). By simply browsing the game's vndb page you can see 2 nfsw cg scenes that don't appear to be sex scenes at all. I wonder how much removing that will impact the narrative. Regardless, I think I'll still get this. The demo was awesome and I've been really hungering for another well written game. After thinking some more, I think I'll wait to see how the final product is actually like.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
I like the design of both website and the game; the demo was nice.
I'm just a little concerned about possiblecliches generic-ness. I immediately thought "hey, a wheelchair girl" upon seeing the wheelchair girl at the site, and remarking about the quotes, I thought this *might* be good (however the descriptions felt somewhat generic and repetitive). You all understood what I'm getting at? Examples of wheelchair girls. though not limited to only girls, include Fuuko Kurasaki from Accel World, Ayase Shinomiya from Guilty Crown, and others. The demo's ending credits also sort of suggested what's going to happen. Ah, memories. Valkyrie Chronicles was a fun game.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
It would be one thing if this was an all-ages game already, but are they just literally going to remove all of the 18+ scenes? Even the hot tub/bath scenes that aren't really sexual? That's such a bad idea. :/
I mean, I'm still going to buy it because it's beautiful and the writing is pretty good, but... why? What's their reasoning? I'm sure they're going to lose a lot of sales because of that.

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
I'm sort of... eh about this.
On the one hand: Yay, a new release!
On the other hand: ... I do hate removed content in translations and localizations. Changes I can kinda understand, but full removal... It would honestly be one thing if there was an all-ages already but... I dunno, that just doesn't sit well with me.
The translation, while not terrible, feels stiff. It is definitely a literal translation.
I'll wait until it is released to really put in my two cents, though, since they don't seem likely to release an uncensored version without the all-ages being released alone or first. We don't know exactly what has been removed (there are rumors of "everything including kissing" which I do not believe) and they have noted the demo translation is not the final product.
I'll wait quietly for this one. (and hope everyone at least looks at it before passing their own judgement)

Re: If My Heart Had Wings
Well here's hoping someone cracks the game and releases version with the sex scenes in English.

Ah ha, I was expecting some one to mention this.
