Harvest Moon 64

I was wondering if anybody else likes the Ren'ai aspect of this game.

It was the first game with Ren'ai elements I ever played. I origonally got it because I play the HM games for the Ren'ai, and Nina was impossible to get in the SNES version.

It really is kind of a Ren'ai game, at least if you want it to be. It has full-view charas, even a love-love meter. You have rivals and certain events to up the love-love meter happens a few times a year. There are two kinds of events, festvals and love-love events. Festivals give you a choice between all girls, while Love-Love events happen to one particular girl. It even has a tsurendeko! (Karen)

And let's not forget the pretty story, making good use of the love hina clique.

Any opinions?

My favorite Harvest Moon experience thus far: the Playstation game Back to Nature. Maybe because I missed the SNES game, or because I didn't care for the N64... but I played Back to Nature quite a bit. I got through a year and a half, eventually married a girl, and... that's when I stopped having so much free time.

The Gameboy Advance versions are basically 2d versions of the N64/PS1 game. Not bad, but not awesome.

I don't like Harvest Moon DS. The controls made it awful. If Rune Factory has bad controls, I'll avoid it.

Finally, the new PSP game Boy and Girl is basically a remake of the PS1 game.

HM64's my favorite Harvest Moon game of all time. The Gamecube one, A Wonderful Life, just couldn't compare to it. If I remember it right, there was something weird that they added to it that I didn't like. And I think I was always getting lost for some reason. I'm directionally challenged. O_o The GBA ones were...okay. I didn't play the guy one, but the girl one was fun (I loved the Doctor person, yay).

The N64 one was one of the few games I've played through tons of different times. Usually, I'd play for Karen or Anne if I felt like persuing someone. Heh... What I liked a lot about it were the events and stuff, like the horse & dog races, the swimming competition, the egg hunting competition, the milk contest, and all those other things. Really kept my mind off of the repetitiveness of all of the days spent solely farming. I only wished that the kid you can have would grow up more. >_< But the game was great, regardless~

I like harvest moon... to be frank I only played the Gba Version of mineral Town, wich is one of the best for portable consoles. It's by far one of the most entertaining games I have ever played and with the good side that the game in itself is "infinite" (as in you play as much as you can.. since the sistem is the same). Right now I'm tending for my son and Ellie.... thought I'm trying to find the cursed tools as soon as I can so I can bless them (everything on mytrill right now).

My bro bought the wwi recently and the new harvest moon for it seems it's gonna be great... though with the wwi controler it will probably be a pain to control the strokes on the ground... but I heard they are fixing and showing the "Blast" radius for the hit (charged tool).

I'm waiting for Rune factory to pop up... from what I've seen it seems interesting... but hopefully it has better controls from the ds like gekiganwing said.

Innocent life for PSp also seems like a good shot... though you have to build your stats as you are a cyborg... history is pretty much Harvest moon in a futuristic plane... as rune factory is Harvest Moon in a fantasy plane.

Yeah.. nuff said... harvest moon for the win :P lol

Ah, Harvest Moon....gotta love it!

I have HM: Back to Nature currently. I think the Harvest Moon series, when it stuck to the farm sim, was a good idea, because wasn't just *you have a farm to build* you had other characters to interact with, and conditions to be met <at least in the PS1 version>. I agree it's got ren'ai elements in it, I also like that the characters are fleshed out and actually have personalities....it's a good series.

Okatu Dash brings up a good question...was there ever a Harvest Moon for windows?? I don't think there was....

Only in rom version I'm afraid :P Also when I meant Harvest moon for the win... it's an expression... as in.. not "win" (windows) as in win (gain, good.. etc..) *smiles nervously and is afraid to get smithed by Musical*

But yeah an Harvest moon for windows would be cool... well the closest thing next to it I saw was Magical boutique.. but it can be pulled off I think ^^

JUST for that I'll send Saibara and Grey <the smiths from HM:Back to Nature> after ya! LOL Hey, you said smiths so....joking aside, Dash, great to see ya back :)

I did a search and found that no company has made a Harvest Moon for the computers at all...it's weird that they have for the Gameboy, SNES, N64, PS, PS2, Gamecube et all but none for the computer <outside of rom>....wonder why?

NO NOT GREY!!! HE'S AFTER MY MARY I TELLZ YA!!!

*Ellie holding his son glares at him* Err... I didn't mean it like that honey... you are the only one for me... *smiles and gives her a desert rose he found in the mines*
--------

Jokes aside, it's good to be back musical.... after many months of bad waves and self dispair I finally got back on track.. even if I messed up a few things that need to be taken care off... such is life.. you learn with your mistakes ^^

"Off-topicness" aside... I think the main reason is because most harves moon games tend to bring new events of interaction with the user... wich is fairly limited on the computer since you can only stay on the raw aspect of the game: farming, flirting and marrying.

Most new sagas of harvest moon always brough a new level of events and interactivity... one example is the new harvest moon for wii (It's looking great) wich you have to use teh wii remote for the actions.... lift the remote upwards to charge the plow tool for example... or drag sideways with the watering can to water the crops.

Also some elements are always being recovered... in some harvest moons the cat, pig and other animals were removed... right now the are being recovered in the new sagas.... on the wii for example you can ride an ostrich (O_o.. yep... you can...).

A version for the computer could be a good deal... but I think the harvest moon creaters are focused on nintendo machines, wich would be hard to bring something for everyday computers nowerdays.... a fan game may be made though, but it's terribly hard due to the mechanics of the game... it's hard to make a farming game easy to pick up and work with diferent mechanics than harvest moon... "copyrighted" would come right at bay...

That's probably one of the many reasons I'm waiting for magical boutique 2.. I think it's one of the most similar games I have played in terms or organization and simulation.. being at a one kind game to play...

*exales* God I had a lot to say.... I guess that's to be expected for a visual novel tester away for too long XD .... too tired to go on....

*rests*

Monele take note. I haven't played any Harvest Moon game, sadly, so I hope you did.

In terms of simulation I meant in terms of gathering... of course I can't compare magical boutique to harvest moon , they are diferent and enjoyable in each way *smiles* (yeah I liked magical boutique a lot.. I was quite hooked with it and never went bankrupt once... W00T! HUZZA FOR MICRO MANAGEMENT!! xD).

In harvest moon you basicly plant the seeds that are well suited for a determinate season... for example.. you can plant turnips on spring but not on summer or fall... in winter you can't plant anything so you have to tend to the animals only.

Basicly each vegetable as a crop season... so it takes time for them to grow and harvest... turnips can be taken once and then need to be replanted, not like cabbages that can regrow after harvest (nice profit on cabbages actually.. they are my main profit zone on spring...xD).

If you wanted to aproach magical boutique in an ingredient way... you could make certain ingredients only "harvestable" or "ripe" in certain ways or days... for example.. special magical fruits or artifacts need various factors to be ripe or appear.... cases of madragora roots on full moons for example: putting a moon cicle could be interesting... but it would be hell to implement ^^; But I disgress and I'm going a bit off-topic... I probably should rewrite this on the Magbou 2 thread if you and Monele are interested DaFool. As I said... Harvest Moon and Magbou are simulation games.. but each on its own "flavour" *smiles*
