I should point out that they've placed online demos for two of the titles ("Ai Yori Aoshi" and "Ever17")... which I'm downloading now.

And I was just re-reading the AYA manga yesterday. Bully!

Well, I've been *trying* to download the AYA demo all day and haven't managed to complete it yet, it keeps giving up partway through. :)

I just finished downloading both demos, so the problem may be on your end, or somewhere else on the net.

I just installed the AYA demo, and it works for me, even on vmware.

You may want to try downloading through the coral web-cache, which can be done by going to:

Whaaat? They're releasing Ever17 in english?! And on PC, no less?! I remember playing the demo a long while ago, back when the game was still relatively new, and being greatly interested in it. I can only hope this means that they'll finally start releasing good games - will we see a release of Memories Off next? (Though I guess in the end, it's all a matter of popularity...)

And just when I was pondering getting the DVD edition... Is Hirameki's translation job usually good? It might be worth waiting for the english version... And what about the voices? Do they keep the original seiyuu (Asakawa Yuu as Tsugumi~)?

Well, subject to the qualification that I know barely any Japanese, the Hirameki games I've played seem to have been well-translated. At least, there were no glaring mistakes that were to the detriment of the game.

BTW: I played the AYA demo. The download, while huge, mostly consists of the opening from the first AYA TV series. The actual game is only one scene long, basically setting up the plot. I think the main purpose of the demo is to let you test the game to see if it works on your system... as far as the actual game goes, it really doesn't give you an idea as to if you'd like it or not. (I'd imagine your opinion of the TV series or manga would be a larger factor... I wouldn't play this game without watching or reading one of them first.)

I did finally get the AYA demo to download and it ran ok (One person on another board had it crash after the movie.) No luck with the other one, though. I've been having connection issues with the hirameki site in general today, it could just be some weird routing thing between me and them.

It did give the impression of needing to know what's going on with the series to enjoy it, so probably not top of my stack there. Are the other titles more standalone?

somehow, I seem to think that the AYA game is going to be similar to love hina... I don't know why. I havn't heard of the anime before (I've seen Love Hina). it's just the setup and how I interpeted it.

They're coming out of the woodwork now:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention.php?id=237

says:
though Broccoli is involved in video game production in Japan, Broccoli USA will not produce or localize any video games. They have licensed out the Galaxy Angel game to another US company for localization. The “chose your own adventure” style game will feature subtitles, not an English dub, and they are hoping for it to be released next year.
I believe that the original GA game is a mix of space-dogfighting and bishoujo gaming... so this might be another game coming our way.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Hirameki usually chooses its titles wisely, so it never feels like a waste of money (sort of). Duh. I am so lucky I didn't watch AYA yet. 8)

The GalaxyAngel game is being translated?! Cool!! I was wishing that would happen but didn't even bother hoping for it! It is indeed part dating game, part tactical space battle simulation. I'd given up hope of playing any such thing this decade after Gun Shield Warrior SAKIGAKE got cancelled. That's so cool!! :D

The haeleth forums call attention to:
. Currently in Japan, “Kimi ga nozomu eien” and “Tukihime” have been made into many anime episodes and we’re sure that anime fans attuned to what is happening are dying to play the game that kicked off the craze these anime have created. Please be on the look out for news from HIRAMEKI, which was created with the objective of meeting the needs of these fans. We are working hard to see that we have some big titles on the horizon for you.

Some people elsewhere are pretty annoyed about that, though, since Hirameki does strictly non-H and they don't want to see censored versions...

Well, KimiNozo already has both a dreamcast and PS2 version (both non-H, of course), so I guess they would port those instead. As for Tsukihime, it was a doujin soft and if I remember well has been out of print for ages, so I somehow doubt we'll ever see it no matter what they might say.

On a side note, the Ai Yori Aoshi game was also released by KID, those who did Ever17... I'm not expecting much, but I do hope for a long term contract with KID.

Ever17 looks quite nice, I'm looking forward to it. :)
