San Andreas Love Stories

#1 Post by mikey »

GTA San Andreas... well, it's not exactly ren'ai, but you do have an option of having a girlfriend. It's really a rare sight in Western games so I thought I'd mention it.

One could expect it, but the girls are gangstas, so it's not really anything poetic... Still, I wanted to make it work with one of them, and it all went smoothly, but then when I was driving her to the restaurant, she wanted to do a drive-by, pulled out her gun and all... I stopped the car so she doesn't do that and she got out. I picked some flowers in the park to give them to her when we arrive at the restaurant, as a surprise - anyway I thought that she'd get this killing out of her mind when I give the flowers to her - so I went around the car towards her. I thought we were already in a safe neighborhood, but we weren't and suddenly enemy gang members appeared. I didn't even have time to scroll the mouse for my gun and she was shot. I let the bullets hit me for a moment, just standing there STILL with that bouquet of flowers and saw the blood spilling ever more over the sidewalk. In its own way, it was emotional, although the romantic talk was always very stupid. I then did that useless vengeance against every gang member I could find, but I decided to save the game like it was and not re-load.

GTA SA... it was only a matter of time before THIS showed up here... I already knew about the GF option (thanks to PCGAMER, who bashed the game apart in their review).

granted, there was a news story last night concerning these types of games (violent games, not renai games) that I missed due to going to sleep... I think it was on NBC at around 10:00 Central Time Zone. anyone here awake late enough to see it? just wondering what was in it.

well, I just noticed that this game is no longer M-rated. anyone with it is now in possession of an adult game. you can thank the mod community for that.

appearantly, one modder found hidden data built right into the game and created a "mod" that unlocked the adult content. this caused the rating on not only the PC version but ALL the versions to be bumped up. (M->AO)

PS2 players can unlock the mini-game with Pro Action Replay codes. That's why the rating for all versions (existing copies) has changed to AO.

It's still stupid, since the game as presented wasn't AO, the difference between M and AO is ridiculously minute, and nobody is screaming that all Disney movies should be rerated R or X when someone finds a single frame where a bored animator has drawn something naughty...

It's funny how it almost always is the graphical content that defines those ratings. Some of the more "artsy" books and alternative literature... well I read through a few short stories being published these days and it's written so explicitly, that your standard erotic film is no match for it. I'd rather see my kid see that past-10pm movie (I don't mean porn, just the normal erotic movie) than read that book - Some call it realism, some just find it disgusting, in any way those short stories were about abuse, drugged sex and what ever else you can think of. Freely available from your book store. And suddenly that bored housewife & a plumber flick seems like a bedtime story.

Yes, but you see, the kind of All American Family that freaks out about these things CAN'T READ. :)

It will naturally have something to do with the acceptance, culture and all that background. The biggest residential part of Bratislava has a big lake in its centre, and it's not uncommon to see topless girls there (it's not a nude beach). Of course you only go like that around the lake but still, when you grow up there, you don't find it offensive. That goes also for nudity in movies. Somehow typically French, but also European movies will have more erotic scenes in them than its US counterparts. Still, I wouldn't say that makes for a decadent culture. The Americans can really take very much, be it violence or whatever type of humor... so as you said, the much lesser acceptance of naked female bodies (freaking out ^_^) is strange. To somehow bring this on topic (but you know, who cares, this is interesting anyway...), I can take my girlfriend in San Andreas, drive her to the woods and set her on flames before putting a bullet in her head and it's "okay", but it actually changes rating due to a sex scene which (if you've seen it) doesn't reveal that much. It's strange. Much more so when you think of how San Andreas handles girlfriends/women... they're more or less just b's and h's... you can be a pimp in the game, how much does that say... But enough of that. The post is too long already

it's practically like some of those perverted model-makers for Q3A and the Unreal series (yes, there are adult models available for those games... minus UT2k4 for now. Polycount actually has one for Q3A). they aren't part of the original presentation of the game, so why the big fuss? hell, if they got that picky about it, why isn't Castlevania: Lament of Innocence AO? there's exposed boobies in half of the levels! (either that or I'm being drugged and don't know it). and what about Playboy the mansion? that's M-rated and has options to actually view the nudity - IN NORMAL GAME PLAY (yes, I'm bored. I read stratagy guides and FAQ's for games I'll never buy and/or play just for fun. so sue me. J/K)

(somehow I think PCGAMER had a hand in this...)

(translation: I believe the US is becoming more and more ****ed up...)

well, things have officially gotten more ****ed up around here...

http://planetthesims.gamespy.com/View.p ... etail&id=3

(the reason I put this here instead of another thread should be evident after reading the first paragraph...)

one-sentence summary: Jack Thompson (who was with the group behind the rating change on GTA:SA) wants the Sims 2 (a T-rated game) BANNED.

everyone who has the game (like me, which is why I'm so PO'd about it) probably knows how to remove the pixellation (ironically, this doesn't work in the university expansion... weird, but, IIRC, there's an alternative way to get at it.). remove that, you essentially have... a barbie doll. no genitals, no nipples (the shape of the breast is still there, though. not much EA could do about that.). IMO, if Thompson wants this game off the markets, he should have the barbie dolls pulled off the shelves as well. I know I'm not the only person this guy is annoying (every comment on the article is against his).

(remotely on-topic: I stumbled across this when I noticed "Planet The Sims" at fileplanet while getting Quake III Arena maps. coincidence?)
