Hello! My name is Whit, I'm currently leading a game project that is a VN/ Match 3 RPG hybrid (Think Dating Sim meets Puzzle Quest). The game takes place in "modern day", but the visuals and themes are inspired by late 80's/early 90's anime, music, and fashion. Since the story revolves around a group of magical girls and boys, the colors and design will lean heavily on the 80's/90's pop/pastel aesthetic.
What I'm looking for:
I'm looking for a musician who is able to produce original tracks that could potentially fall into the vaporwave, mallsoft, and Future Funk genres. I'll need a wide array of music (exciting battle theme, calm overworld themes, etc) so someone who is flexible with synth music is preferable, but I'm not opposed to having more than one musician on my team. Since the story revolves around magical girls/boys, I'll want music that is generally happy/ cute/ positive, but not "sugary".
My biggest concern is being unable to find an artist that doesn't rely on samples of other tracks (since we are going to do a commercial project, we don't want to run into any copyright issues, so everything used should be original, purchased stock/copyright, or royalty free.)
Examples of What I like:
Here are some samples of what I felt inspired by and what I felt fit the game. Divided the songs into different groups/styles that I wanted in the game for different purposes.
Playlist of Faster Future Funk-type tracks (that I liked the instrumentals of but wished there were no vocals)

Playlist of Softer tracks (for overworld-type themes)

Payment:
As the lead artist and project manager, I have a good grasp on all the visuals for the game, but need a musical partner who will be able to produce at least 3-4 original tracks for the game's demo. I'm mostly looking for partners who are interested in
A) a small sum of payment upfront, and the rest of the payment post-crowdfunding
B) volunteers who are okay with working for free on a demo and getting paid post-crowdfunding, or
C) musicians who are okay with small installments of payments over the course of time.
I will likely not offer a royalty-only deal (since I want all team members to get paid for their time before the project is over) but I'm more than happy to discuss payment plans / money / etc.
Contact:
Please reply to this post with a link to a portfolio as well as 2-3 songs that may fit the sort of style I'm looking for. It doesn't need to be exactly the sort of music that I linked, but I do want the music to have a similar feeling. If there's any questions, please feel free to PM me or add them below and I will address them ASAP. You can also email me at jwhitneyart(at)gmail(dot)com.

Re: Seeking Musician(s) for 80's/90's inspired tracks
Hey there!
I'd definitely be interested. I don't have any examples of mallsoft, vaporwave or future funk but I definitely am aware of those genres and interested in trying it out. Here's my demo:

That's honestly a problem I've had with that too, is that they're reliant on sampling heavily, and putting a filter on it, etc. It's difficult to reproduce the sound that's made by sampling this stuff, but I have quite a few good old synth sounds and I could mess around to try to recreate that sound without the use of samples, and play everything myself. You can PM me here or email chris-86@live.com if you're interested. Thanks!
