Summary
Vicboys is a datingsim set in Victorian England. The game follows the protagonist over a period of 1 year, as she attempts to find herself a suitable husband.
During this time she’ll encounter a rich variety of characters from different social classes who all play their own part in her story.
OPEN CALL VOICE ACTORS
Vicboys is developed by Sakubaka, an indie game studio founded by two game art students from the Netherlands. Since we’re both still in school, we work on our game in our spare time. We're hoping to release Vicboys commercially on steam once it's finished. These past months we've been receiving a lot of questions regarding voice acting. Even though it would be amazing to feature voice acting in our game, we couldn’t overlook how difficult it would be for us to achieve this within our small budget. But recently we received several messages of voice actors who offered their services to us as a volunteer. It made us realise there are more people out there who want to expand their portfolio with projects like this. That's why we are currently holding an open call for Voice actors. We aim to put all the voice actors in the spotlight they deserve and try to make it a project worthwhile to work on. :)

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
  • Vicboys is set in the Victorian Age. So we’ll be looking for British voice actors or people who can pull off a British accent. (Except for 1 character who's American)
  • We have a wide set of over 25 characters, from young children to old people.
  • We can only offer you full credit and experience at the moment. (Any other payment methods like an exchange of services can be discussed!)
  • You don't have to be a professional voice actor to audition. You will be judged by your voice, not your experience.
  • We'll close the auditions after 11:59 pm on the 31st of May - Central European Time [UTC + 1]
HOW TO APPLY
If you meet these requirements please follow these steps:
  • In the attachments underneath you'll find character sheets with information about the voices we're looking for. We only revealed a handful of characters that's why a lot of them only have a silhouette. If you want to try out for one of the suitors you can find more information about their personalities in our Lemmasoft post. Pick a character from these images that you want to audition for. We encourage you to try out for multiple characters. We’ve got a lot of them after all!
  • We have a wide set of over 25 characters, from young children to old people.
  • We want all the applicants to at least say the following lines for every character they’d like to audition for:

“Hello, I’m [name]. I’m a character from the upcoming datingsim: Vicboys.”

But feel free to add on to this or change it to your liking. We also believe it’s important to give voice actors the freedom to improvise. This is something we’d like to pursue in the final production as well.
  • Please record yourself with a decent microphone and send your files to sakubakachan@gmail.com and put “Vicboys voice acting” in the title of your e-mail.

A few quick questions!
  • Would this have partial voice acting, or full voice acting?
  • What file format is preferable? .wav, .mp3...?
  • If we want to add more to the audition samples, is there anything else we could do readings of? Can we pick something at our own discretion or even adlib lines?

Hi Evy. Thanks for responding. And to answer your questions...
Would this have partial voice acting, or full voice acting?
Full voice acting would be the ultimate goal. But we'd like to discuss this with the voice actors as well once they're cast.
What file format is preferable? .wav, ....?
Both .wav and .mp3 are fine by us.
If we want to add more to the audition samples, is there anything else we could do readings of? Can we pick something at our own discretion or even adlib lines
Since we're holding open auditions we couldn't very well post documents with actual lines from the game itself. That's why we went for the "two lines" introduction approach. We also believe that these lines are enough for us to determine which voice would suit a particular character. Hope that's okay! Though we tend to communicate back and forth between applicants. So if you'd like to know more details about the personalities of the characters, be sure to send us an e-mail. We can always provide you with more information. :)
