Looking for Sprite artist [Closed - processing applicants]

#1 Post by Zetsubou » Sun Feb 22, 2015 4:57 am

Greetings once again, artists of LSF!
I am currently looking for a second sprite artist in order to speed up development of my VN, Sickness.
Although I'm not in any particular hurry, there are quite a few sprites left, so I feel it would be best to have at least one more sprite artist on board.

The story, genres, licensing, the process, questions, etc.

To avoid repeating myself, please check out the (closed) CG recruitment thread for Sickness.
It's fairly recent, and the details are much the same.

Art Style

This part is what's most important, so please don't apply if you don't feel up to it.
Since I'm already working with one sprite artist, you need to be able to match their style. I can't have sprites changing in style from one character to the next.
Also, the characters are split fairly evenly between male/female, so you should be able to draw both. However, if you can't, it isn't a deal-breaker.

Examples of the current sprites can be seen here and here.
If you get to the end of this post and are still interested, I can throw some more examples at you. I realize that there aren't many uploaded at the moment.

Details

Most of the sprites are for minor characters, a couple are for semi-main characters. Most of the main characters are already being worked on.
There are currently 18 unstarted characters. They average on 1 outfit, 1 pose, 3 expressions.
All pose changes are minor. ie. Only the arms move.

Sprites will all be waist-up, or around there. Please refer to the example sprites linked earlier.

Some of the characters may end up being based on CGs. Ideally the sprites should come first, but if one of the CG artists gets to a particular scene first, then the sprite will need to resemble the CG rather than the other way around.

Files will need to be sent as PSDs, with toggle-able layers for outfits, poses, expressions, etc.
This is partly so you can send me one file instead of dozens, and partly because of the way Sickness is coded (the individual layers are displayed overlapping in-game).

Payment

I don't have a set price, but for reference, the sprite artist I'm currently working with has a rate of $15 for the initial sprite (1 pose/outfit/expression), $2 per additional expression, $5 per additional outfit (assuming it's easy), $5 per minor pose change (eg. just moving the arms).
I'm not expecting you to match their price. Quote me whatever you think is fair.
However, the amount I'm willing to pay will depend on the speed and quality of your work, and even if you're the best artist here, my funds are not limitless.
