CONCEPT AND SCALE

Romance of Raskya will be a short but compact visual novel with several endings and branching paths, featuring heavy ancient world and military theming. The player experiences the viewpoint of two alternating characters, a pair of lovers, as they seek to undermine a violent civil war around them and reunite with each other. We are expecting a single playthrough of the game to take two-three hours, with further play incentivized by different routes and multiple endings. This is not an attempt at a massive visual novel, but rather an experimental ‘novella’ meant to tell a succinct, complete story in a world we will revisit in future with longer, more full-featured games once we are more experienced and have other projects under our belt.

WHAT IS ALREADY DONE

The second draft of the script has been finished at about 91,000 words, with only minor revisions left before finalization. My partner BasileusDoug has begun to construct the game’s skeleton in Ren’Py, and the music is being composed. All major characters are designed, and all backgrounds are completed.

WHAT WE NEED

A skilled CG artist who is capable of matching or nearly matching the style of our character art.

We will need 12-15 (depending on various factors) CGs for important character and story highlights, ranging from simple drawings of objects, to detailed close-ups of characters in important moments and fanservice, to large-scale highly detailed battle sequences and action shots.

CONTENT

Although Romance of Raskya is not going to be a pornographic game, it will absolutely depict violence, death, nudity and eroticism. Our world is based on the real one, and seeing as the real world is exceptionally X-rated (particularly the ancient world), these themes will be present. Ability to work comfortably (preferably enthusiastically) drawing blood, gore, death, nudity and sexuality is an absolute must. All characters depicted in the story are 18 years of age or older.

COMPENSATION/EXPECTATIONS

We have a budget, but thankfully it is being 100 percent funneled towards art needs, seeing as how we can do (almost) everything else ourselves. We will discuss with you what compensation you feel is fair for your work. We want to keep in fairly regular contact, at the very least requiring one update a week, but the more the better. We prefer to communicate via e-mail, but this is negotiable.

ABOUT US

We are Basileus Games, a small partnership between fellow history and gaming nerds that want to tell stories of historical fiction and fantasy in the compelling format of the Visual Novel. We have full-time jobs to pay the bills, but at last we have been able to find the time and drive to work towards something we’ve wanted to do for years now: make a game. But we need help to achieve this goal.

My partner BasileusDoug and I are writers and designers primarily, but we dabble in other areas like programming and composing. The only necessary skill we are both completely devoid of is artistic ability, and that is where you come in.
