Who am I?
Hey there, my name is Cameron and I've been writing for most of my life. It's my passion, and also my full time job along with some other freelance art work. I've taken numerous writing courses, ranging from fiction to screenwriting to technical writing, and have dabbled in just about everything in between.
I'm comfortable with just about any genre, from simple, lighthearted and humorous stories, to darker ones with complex, extended story arcs, as well as adult themes. My work has generally been prose, but there's no difference whether you're creating a VN that's mostly dialogue or one that's more along the lines of standard prose. I'm comfortable and capable with any process.
I'm also right at home with utilizing detailed flow charts, story branches, prerequisites and values that affect player choices and the flow of the story, as well as other concepts related to general game design. Whether you simply need straight, simple writing, or someone who can completely engineer the game's flow, I'm your man.
I'm not familiar with any programming languages, but depending on the compensation I'm open to learning to fit what's needed to make things easier for everyone.
What do you charge, and how do you handle payment?
My rate will vary, and I'm open to revenue sharing in some cases, but in general the rate will be between 3 and 6 cents a word. 3 would be very basic, straight dialogue and/or prose, covering a very simple story that you provide and I write. 4 cents would be similar in that I'd be writing straight dialogue and prose, but would cover more complex stories that may require a bit of research and thought on my part to advance the story. 5 cents would be for higher complexity in the actual VN side of things, such as extensive branches and variables, and would also include flow chart work on my part to completely draw out and construct the structure of the VN (a vital resource when you're working on a team, so that everyone can easily stay on the same page). 6 cents would come into play for the most complicated of subjects, and possibly the addition of asking me to learn any programming skills to expedite the process (something that we'd have to discuss). The higher rates would also fit into situations where you're asking me to come up with the story myself.
Those are the general terms for the different rates, but every situation is different, so nothing is a lock. We'll always have to discuss things thoroughly beforehand and figure out what will work for both of us.
In most cases, the payment process will need to be in increments. Up front payment (even in part) for an entire story isn't great for either side, and payment only upon the completion of an entire story is also out of the question (I've actually had that asked of me before for a massive VN project, believe it or not). That means you'll choose a set word count for me to work on, pay me for it, and we would repeat this each time I've delivered the previous chunk of writing and whatnot (at a pace that works for both of us). A mutually signed contract will always be in place, that we would both look over and agree to.
Other situations may be considered (such as revenue sharing), but generally I'll only agree to scenarios like this if it's a sure thing. Unfortunately I can't write for your project that you're putting on Kickstarter or Patreon in hopes that you'll make money. It's a busy market, and not every project gets the attention and financial support that it deserves, which then could lead to a lot of wasted, unpaid time on my part. As always, this is something we can discuss.
All I ask is that you communicate well with me. Don't be shy about asking questions and even chatting vocally or live on Skype or something similar. Communication is best, and if you're scarce or hesitant to talk with me, it's difficult for us to get things moving and understand each other properly.
What experience do you have?
As I mentioned earlier, I've taken numerous writing courses and have immersed myself in writing for a very long time. It comes naturally to me, and my writing ability is my most treasured possession in life. I have a vivid imagination that meshes very well with my ability to construct characters, plots, and universes that are as wildly creative as they are down to earth and logical. I absolutely love to create, and even if the material is not my own, I'm great at absorbing it, understanding it, and making it my own while still retaining exactly what you want.
As far as writing work experience goes, I've had a short story (that I have since made publicly available) published on a short stories app, I've written creative marketing material for a mural/billboard company website, and have also had publishing rights to instructional writing articles purchased by a magazine. Beyond that, I've done ghostwriting for countless individuals and projects, ranging from basic fan-fiction to complex, historically accurate war fiction. Whatever the subject, I'm great at acquainting myself with the material quickly and accomplishing whatever you need from me.
Do you have any ideas or project material available for purchase?
I don't have any pre-written stories or scripts available, but I do have the groundwork for two on hand. One (a Game of Thrones styled story of a young heir thrown into a mission of political espionage and seduction) has a summary and overall explanation written up, while the other (a medieval setting where the reader/player follows a skilled interrogator turned church inquisitor as he travels to a small town where a suspected witch has burned down a logging mill, tasked with discovering her true nature) has a similar summary written up as well as a clean, effective flow chart drawn up that lays out the story from beginning to end.
If you're looking for a writer for a VN, but don't have an idea in mind yourself or are simply looking to start a new project, both stories are available. Feel free to ask me about either of them if you're interested.
Could I see some examples of your writing?
Of course! Here are a few of them.
