Hello all,
I've been lurking here off and on for a while as I slowly get my voiceover system set up. In the meantime I've decided to throw my hat in the ring based around my other skillset. I worked as a freelance writer, and have tabletop rpg, fiction, and nonfiction credits to my name. Among my last published credits were an article in The International Journal of Comic Art and a book review in the The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism. During portions of 2012 and 2013 I worked as a freelance research consultant producing material examining the music of Kanye West in light of the work of western philosophy, and later working up initial pedagogical material that linked this work to select examples of modern theatre. I also provided an initial editorial consultation for a project examining the visual rhetoric used in the court of Philip II of Spain. Currently, I am offering the following services:
Editorial Consulting
I am available for editorial services that can include line editing and proof reading, evaluating plot structure and dialogue, as well as related services. Developmental editing services are generally not available, but can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. My editorial workflow generally includes both OpenOffice and MS Office 2013. If your project requires a specific program or programs beyond what is currently available to me that can be discussed.
Research Services
While the general editorial process involves pointing out glaring errors that might include informing you that the Etrucans were not "Gaia worshiping proto Greeks," and that the characters of Pride & Prejudice would neither know nor use the phrase "zombie apocalypse," sometimes you need a specific question or questions answered, or a specific topic researched. My academic experience is in philosophy and art history, both research heavy disciplines. I have also worked as a research and production dramaturg, in which my job was to research various facts and information about a play and present them to the cast, crew, (and to a much lesser degree) audience in easily digestible chunks that enabled them to better to their jobs. As such I am familiar with researching information across a wide range of disciplines, and with presenting that information to a variety of audiences.
Writing?
Given my background is as a writer it might seem strange that I'm not more prominently advertising my services as such. The short answer is that for the right offer I'd be willing to consider it. That right offer would be for 10,000 words or less, based on a negotiated and contracted word rate, and paid on acceptance. This would be true even if no one else on the project was being paid, had agreed to be paid on a royalty-only basis etc..
Adult Material?
I generally have no problem working with or on adult oriented or erotic materials. However, if the focus of the project is bestiality, incest, or rape, or includes racism, homophobia etc. I'm going to pass on it.
I also won't work on fan materials. If you don't own the IP, or have the explicit permission of the IP holder, and the material doesn't fall within a protected category such as parody or satire I'm simply not interested in being involved in the project.
Rates
With the exception mentioned in the section on writing, I'm generally willing to be flexible in the rates for my work. If the project is small, or I'm able to turn it around quickly I might be willing to work for credit-only or on a skill exchange basis (I have some banners that need created in the near future and that sort of thing). For larger projects I'm willing to discuss my rates based on the size and budget of the project, and whether or not it would involve any additional outlay on my part such as for a particular program or access to certain research materials.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a project/see samples of my work feel free to get in touch with me.
