Writer, Editor, and Proofreader Looking for Work!
Hey everybody,
I am Jescmo, and I am looking for projects that commission for paid written work. Although I have not made a professional career out of writing, I have a wealth of experience in writing in various styles and mediums, including articles, papers, and so on. But that's not why you're here. I enjoy producing vibrant and scenic experiences that resemble the graphic textures of visual novels. Undoubtedly, there's a rich and unmatched space that only the visual novel can offer to the art of writing.
To be sure of my writing style, I am trained in the philosophical tradition, which means I strive for clarity above all else. As George Orwell advises us, clear and succinct writing is far better than eloquent and flowery language and can go a long way. More importantly, I strive to evoke the five senses when possible, and as best as I can.
Genre: I have no strong preferences for any types of visual novels; I can write in any genre and impose little restriction on what I allow myself to write.
Style: My favorite style of writing is stream-of-consciousness, but I am flexible in writing within a wide range of styles: from lighthearted banter to eroge to philosophic depth. These include the perspectives: first, second, third-person, omniscient, unreliable narrator etc. Unless specified, I typically write in a manner that implies the movement and presence of a reader. Things that are obvious and naturally irrelevant would be omitted (food on a plate, using hands to pick up a cell, blue sky, etc.)
One of my strengths is in capturing the behavior, motives, emotions, and moods of characters. Though it is not required all the time, I find more narrative importance in the relationships between characters and their interactions than in detached scenes. I will attempt to exemplify the themes, meaning, and symbolism present in your visual novel.
Availability: I have a flexible and adaptable schedule, so I will make available time for your project when I am able to find it.
Speed and Word Count: On average, I can write 3000 words in 3 hours if I'm not looking for grandiose details. In more precise formulations, I would probably finish ~3000 in a day. I have no restrictions on word count.
Payment: Payment is made via PayPal.
Writing: 2-4c/word
Proofreading: 1-2c/word
Editing: 2-4c/word
Brainstorming - free (it's silly to charge for brainstorming. If you have an idea, just ask. It is always valid to consult your friends and acquaintances; they know you and your ideas best.)
I ensure that my writing and editing is organized, and you should have no trouble navigating it. If you are requesting an edit/proofread, be prepared to be critiqued.
Samples: Currently writing:
1) Into the Hoop
2) Undisclosed project with Dharker Studios
Finished Scripts:
1) (Name still in progress) A
2) Our Lovely Escape
If you want a sample of editing, I can send you one upon request.
Scrapped Visual Novels:
Corruption/Divide : B, C.
Sample B, in particular, showcases my favorite style of choice.
Neutral Grounds : E
Animalia Vengeance : F
Contact: Finally, you can reach me at chenjes@umich.edu, pm me, or post here.
