PS3 price drop?

I've been hearing a lot of whispers around the internet about a Playstation 3 price drop to $200 sometime soon. Does anyone know any details or is able to confirm it? I have a few PS3 games ready in my playing-queue, but no PS3 because I'm afraid of getting it and then having the price drop the next week!

Wouldn't they have announced something that big at E3? Why wait until just a few weeks after instead of using the buzz that would have created for them at the trade show? And I can't see them doing that either until the price of the Wii-U is known.

The conditions just don't seem favorable for it right now to me.

I'm eager to know this as well so finally I can play Heavy Rain. Not like I couldn't afford the PS3 right now, but since here in Europe costs almost 300 eur (about $500!) I feel like an idiot to buy it at such price now

Same for me. I've considered a purchase a few times (Metal Gear Solid! Yay!) but never did because of the price. Of course, I'll have to save a bit of money for the Wii U next year, but a cheaper PS3 would be great to have as well. (The Wii U has no BluRay feature...)

To be honest, I don't think PS3 will have any price drop soon, especially considering PS Vita could be played with PS3 too. It would make more sense if PSP, NDS, and Wii (the original one) that get a massive price drop (due to PS Vita, N3DS, and WiiU respectively). But hey, I could be wrong...

A bit OT, but I just discovered that a game people always suggest me to play (because can help me design my next games), Persona4, is for PS2 which is a console I already have
So I'm thinking to get it, though I have a doubt - is worth playing Persona3 first, or I can just skip to the latest one ? thanks

The story is only very loosely connected, the only thing you'll miss are a few references.
The only danger involved is that Persona 4 is so much better then three, your enjoyment of the latter might be reduced.
You should definitely play it though, it's the best RPG ever. Well at least in my opinion.

Sorry a bit late, but I suggest you to buy Persona 3 FES (or Persona 3 PSP version), not the original one. And it doesn't matter which one first (Persona 4 or 3 first), it won't change your playing experience that much.

Yes I got the Persona3 FES indeed. Though I'm not sure since some people said to forget the 3 and play directly the 4...

If it drops significantly ... maaaybe ... I'd still want it to be backwards compatible. That's just cruel for it not to be.

PS3 is backward compatible (though I think it's not 100% compatible). Since lots of people in gamefaqs forum are talking about playing PS2 titles in PS3.

From what I understand, since I stopped researching PS3s a few years ago, is that backward compatibility is not a standard feature and is exclusive to the most expensive versions. So if they drop the prices on their non-compat ones, I don't really care too much.

Oh yea, forget about that. I think the slim version doesn't support backward compability (and can't play bluray movies too, not too sure).

Personally, I don't really care about that. Bluray disc is very expensive and if I want to play PS2, it's far better to use PS2 for that.

Well I still have the PS2 just to be sure. I think that Persona3-4 will keep me busy for some time (I cannot play more than 1-2h a day sadly)
