I'll definitely be getting this. I love Hakuouki's art, and the time period it's set in. I have high hopes!

The PSP is not dead! Long live the PSP!~
OtomeWeekend wrote: Well, you better research bout Yo-jin-bo. An otome game that killed its company after being localized to english. You won't find it anywhere anymore cause the company went down after being bankrupted(?) due to wide piracy in the net. Wait, oh, almost forgot. You can still buy/download it in hanako games. but that's it. :/ I don't want otomate or Aksys ending up to this. I'll die.
Actually, Hirameki was having a lot of piracy problems before Yo-Jin-Bo. People will pirate non-otome games just as fiercely, if not more so. Apparently they're still around, they just decided not to produce any more video games. They only resell videogame accessories now. They even sell Cyber Gadget stuff in the United States, if anyone actually wants to buy that stuff. http://www.hirameki-int.com/

It's a shame, because they did excellent work.

Yup, PSP won't be dead any time , but it definitely will in one or two years, considering PSP Vita will be launched late this year in Japan (or so Sony claims).

Personally, I think we don't need PSP Vita. PSP's still good enough for portable gaming.

As much as I agree that the PSP is awesome in and of itself...

The touch screen beckons... it is whispering to me as if it were the One Ring from LotR.

Or like the DS was in some of the early ads Nintendo did. *shudder*

dollssoulkirie wrote:Some updated info for everyone about Hakuoki.

Aksys Games has now released info on the shipping dates and the prices for the standard & limited editions. They're currently on Amazon for pre-order. The date's Feb. 14, 2012 and the prices are $29.99 for the standard, $39.99 for the limited edition. And there's no information on what goodies will be in the limited edition yet.

Also, as special promos for each month, Aksys is doing a "Man of the Month" entry to introduce the men of Hakuoki. They're somewhat modernized, to try and grab the attention of people (besides the current fanbase), that way the otome games can somewhat sell decently to push the line for more games in the future. The first entry was Heisuke, the next one will be up on the 14th. Tho, I don't know who it is yet. D: I'll edit this entry and share the pic, I guess. Since I'm rarely doing anything (tho there's a lot that I want to get done).

wow thats cheap! i gotta try and save up to buy the special edition <3 and also i hope my bf lets me borrow his PSP he doesnt use it anymore maybe hell be nice and let me borrow it just for this game >_> *crosses fingers*

oooooh thats so cute! i cant wait to see the article on saito hes my fav <3

also did anyone see screenshots yet? this makes me want to play this even more!

i really hope that more otome games get translated into english and licenced i would defiantly buy them all!

I started hearing lots of complaints about the quality of the translation. :/
From the screenshots, some of it seems hard to understand. A couple of those sentences made me raise an eyebrow, for sure.
Still buying it of course, just for support.
(Urgh, is it just me or do VNs hardly ever get a quality translation? Anyone played Lux-Pain? Yeah, 'nuff said...)

Personally, I don't see any issues with the wording. But I guess that's because I'm quite lenient with everything I play. I know some people complained about the "Your blade was not clouded." screenshot and the "bark of laughter" one too. But both make sense, imo. Especially the "Your blade was not clouded." one. There's nothing wrong there. XD

But please don't compare Aksys to Ignition. XD Fans always had some sort of issue with Ignition. Especially with the handheld games and their Wii games, from what I read. XD I don't have a Wii yet (so I hold no opinion on Muramasa and Arc Rise Fantasia yet) and I haven't played 3 of the DS games that they released that I was interested in. But Aksys had GREAT success with the other visual novel they released, 999. So I doubt there will be hardly an issue of quality compared to that of Ignition's Lux-Pain. Maybe a few thes written as theys on accident, according to the editor on twitter. XD It's like an auto-pilot thing, similar to my -ing when something ends with -in.

Oh yea... and Hakuoki can be pre-ordered at GameStop as well. I just checked online today and noticed it on their webpage. I have to go visit my favorite store in a couple of days to reserve my copy, since I'm also picking up Fate/EXTRA from Aksys.

Oh, I know the translation will be way better than Lux-Pain. I wasn't comparing the quality of Hakuoki's translation to Lux-Pain's at all. I was just saying that English translations always seem a bit iffy, and I was pointing out Lux-Pain as a (rather extreme) example of that. I love Aksys though (hugs 999 ;w;)
Hakuouki doesn't seem that bad. I just thought a few of the sentences sounded a bit awkward, which made me raise an eyebrow. But compared to some of the other translated VNs I've seen, it's looking good so far ^^

lol, hopefully this will encourage more companies to release VNs, especially on handhelds. But if they do, I hope they don't completely westernize them, like Capcom did with Phoenix Wright (but it worked out perfectly in the end for the Ace Attorney series). XD For consoles, that's a big iffy. Since Sony dislikes the idea of console visual novels being released for an English market for some strange reason. Maybe they can do them as games available on the PSN/LIVE Marketplaces instead of full-fledged games on discs (much to my dislike; I love collecting games on discs and sharing the games with my friends).

I hope it does, too! I have Fate/Extra preordered, and I plan on preordering Hakuoki once I've moved to my new address in december. Definitely the Limited edition. Woooooo! Go, Aksys!

Hm, the pretty artwork tempts me to preorder... /shallow

Random thing: someone on Siliconera was annoyed by the fact it looks like they keep the last names shown even when you've gotten to know who the character is. Okay, fine. Someone else mentioned how it was the way last names were important and you say that first blah blah blah. Okay, fair enough. Still fine.

Then this person said they hoped they didn't take out honorifics and I was like, "...8|"

lol, it's REALLY hard to please everyone. I know when it was first announced, everyone was asking if it was going to have Japanese audio or be dubbed in English. Then the same night, Aksys said Japanese audio and some people were put off by it because they wanted English dubbing. But some of them said they'll still purchase the game, to support the idea of more otome games (and hopefully more VNs) will be released in the future.

Honestly, having played the original Hakuouki, I feel like this translation style is more true to the essence of the game, even if a lot of English-speaking people find it odd. (still don't like that "barked with laughter" line, though) The obscure kanji they used throughout the game (there is even a kanji dictionary/glossary in the game) made my head hurt. XD; So while I'm still kind of concerned, I want to support the English VN market, so I've already pre-ordered this despite my reservations.

The thing that's annoyed me the most so far, honestly, is how the editors/people in charge of the localization keep taking the piss on Heisuke in interviews and stuff and saying he's lame or stupid or whatever. :/ Heisuke's my second favorite, so seeing them do this is kind of irritating.

Pfft, support or not, if I'm not sure about it I'm not shelling out $30-40 on it. I don't want English VNs that much to risk wasting my money.

Also, "Your blade was not clouded"? Maybe I'm stupid, but what the hell does that even mean?

@dollssoulkirie: Yeah, but English Does Not Work That Way (yes, that must be caps), so it doesn't make sense to keep honorifics in. I mean, whoever subbed Tiger & Bunny had the sense to change something like, "Smith-san" to "Mr. Smith".

Saitou is really big on uh... Being a true samurai and having a pure warrior's soul and all that stuff. Most of his route is boring to most people because that's all he goes on about--BEING A TRUE WARRIOR and figuring out what it means to be a "bushi". That line is said when he and the MC have a bit of a sparring session towards the beginning of the game. He's saying that despite her obvious inexperience with swordsmanship, her "blade is not clouded", meaning that she's not distracted by meaningless, non-Bushi stuff and it shows in her bladework. It's basically a flowery, Saitou-y way of saying that she has a pure soul.

...Yeah, this sounds like a game where the translation is going to make me throw my PSP at someone. 8|

Okay, it kind of makes sense when it's explained, but even if he meant it shows in her use of the sword, why not have him say something like, "Your mind is not clouded (by useless things)" and that it shows in her bladework? I mean, it'd probably sound less stupid awkward.

And then a million people will whine how it's been changed, like Mr./Mrs. Leave-In-Honorifics-In-Something-In-English.
