hmmm...
I honestly can't remember. I believe it was Um Jammer Lammy for the PSX, but if it counts, I used to play PC games constantly before even that, I barely remember the names of those games :B

Re: Your first ever video game.
I used to play a lot of the educational PC games when I was younger, so my first games were Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis, the Trail games, etc. all of which I'd check out from the library. As for the first game I owned, that was probably either Civilization II or SimCity.

A game-watch. A submarine game watch to be exact. Very very simple and cheap video game (if could be called a video game), since it's all I have at that time (NES was even still not around).

Pokemon Blue? I can't remember exactly either since at the time I was given a lot of hand-me-down games from my older brother.
The second game I owned ever had a bit more influential to me- Mario 64. It took me 7 years to beat it. 7 years. And I still re-play it today.

Re: Your first ever video game.
(Thanks for making this thread, OP. I love revisiting these memories.)
It's kind of hard to say what my first video game was. My family didn't buy console games, but we had early Windows computers (I at least remember far enough back when we had a computer with Windows 3) and I as a result I played a lot of DOS games. My favorite games were Word Rescue, Math Rescue, The Lost Vikings, and Xargon. There was also a program you could launch that would just spawn tons of pretty rainbow pixels. It wasn't a game, just something trippy to look at, but I liked to think they were sprinkles and would pretend to eat them out of the monitor. I also had a lot of fun with MS Paint, even with our ball mouse.
Also Radon was a Tetris clone released in 1995, the year I turned 5. I played it religiously as a kid. I loved it so much that I drew a picture of the program's interface in one of my notebooks. I didn't even know what Tetris was, I just knew I loved Radon.
My limited access to consoles as a kid (plus the fact that PC games are just awesome, and made cool chipsounds) is probably the reason I'm still partial to PC games over console.

Hey, I didn't know those handheld things counted! Okay, I take back the Galaga thing then. My first was a space invaders clone on some Game and Watch thingy that even allowed another player to play on the other side of it.
How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)

Re: Your first ever video game.
Believe it or not, I have the exact same childhood memory at around four years of age. Except he was playing Doom instead of Super Mario World, which, come to think of it, is a considerably less child-friendly game. XDRewritten Ennui wrote:One of my earliest memories involves me as a young child sitting on my father's lap. I recall a TV with moving images, and a man with a red cap running around a brightly colored stage. Most of the time he would have a yellow cape, and he would be riding a green animal that would use its tongue to eat monsters and fruit. Later would I come to know this game to be Super Mario World for the SNES.
The first game I actually played though was actually one of the early King's Quest games. To this day my Dad swears I knew how to use MS-DOS at the tender age of three, though I have absolutely no memory of it.

It must be Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis. Man, I was young back then. Maybe 7 years old?

Re: Your first ever video game.
Well, if educational PC games count then I think I should add that game with the robot that I played through when I was in Kindergarten (Our computer teacher was the one who made us play it), man I can't remember its title, I remember it running on a PC but I really, really can't remember the title. -_- And I do remember that there was a robot that teaches you stuff.IonicMomo wrote:I used to play a lot of the educational PC games when I was younger, so my first games were Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis, the Trail games, etc. all of which I'd check out from the library. EDIT: I started searching for that robot and the whole educational video game thing and now I remember! It was actually a PC program called jumpstart!
Meh, I don't really think it counts as a video game but whatever! )

Re: Your first ever video game.
does simulation games count? X.X I'm pretty sure my very first is a sim game/ its japanese and I was 7 years old and can't read it at all! Dx
I dunno the but i remember that its for GBC. A high school girl who seems like a fashion designer and she also has a boyfriend and you buy clothes and stuff(actually this were all justifications based on what they are doing cause I can't read even a single word at all X.x) and in the graduation, you either get scene with your boyfriend or you became a fashion designer(it seems)
(It seems like tokimeki memorial GS, i remember the title but i can't cause afterall, i can't even read it at that time)
Same time as I've played that, i got the Disney Tetris game too for GBC. Tetris fun, that's nostalgic~ the time that i'm still in love with tetris games i mean. (All my old consoles were given to my cousins so....even if i wanna play them, i can't anymore. ="=)

How could I have forgotten these? I had the Game&Watch with the firemen; people are jumping out of the windows of a burning house and you hold a trampoline and must catch them and bounce them to safety.LVUER wrote:A game-watch. Re: Your first ever video game.
well, myself being 41 and a historian by mindset & formation pls bear a little patience.
the first videogame I can remember playing is an monochrome breakout or invader game played somewhere on a beach along the Domitian Coast, circa summer of 1975 or 1976, I still remember that the coin was a 50 lire.
also, somewhere during the 70s I have an handheld football game which I quickly find an sure-fire pattern
then, circa 1979, there was a (rather elaborate) colour pong game (has: pong, double pong, football, pelota (jai-alai) and a rugby) with four colour (blue, a very nice purple, orange and IIRC, green) followed by the Atari VCS and nearly all home & personal computers running games, until the intentional division of fuctions I done between computers and gaming, with all three playstations during the late 90s and today (plus a pair of so-called "merdstation" here (very cheap clones of NES) used for homebrew purpose.
nearly every text and graphic adventure (the text imput specie), CRPG and mant JRPG have passed in my hands, and the completion rate is fairly high.
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
