Oh yeah no Excel Saga is Right out. Awesome as it is most of the anime club is not use to that kind of hardcore speed reading. Azumanga is a NO simply because it's too damn slow.

We're watching Trigun and something else. were thinking of Spice and wolf but we would need to be careful of the First episode. "Barbie Nudity" may 'offend' someone.

It's looking like Trigun, Lucky Star and Maybe Outlaw Star if we can get hold of it.

I don't know about Excel Saga, since lots of people couldn't stand its humor (me included).

I'm starting with Lucky star and Outlaw star but beyond that my collection is to... racy beyond that.

Also I've fallen behind on the new series an such do to not having "real internet" for 2 years. :/
Uh I wouldn't show Lucky Star for people who are just getting into anime, they wouldn't understand a lot of it and probably hate it.

Suggestions: Clannad, FLCL, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Samurai Champloo, and Cromartie High School.

I don't know about FLCL and Suzumiya whether they are good for people that just started on anime or not. But I think Lucky Star is quite good. Its humor is based on everyday life so it could connect with everyone... everyone who lives in Japan at least.

At least where I live, a lot of people who aren't diehard anime fans still loved FLCL. It aired on Cartoon Network a lot. But Lucky Star, I have to doubt. I mean, it's not like you couldn't understand any of it without knowing about anime, but think of how much wouldn't be funny to you because you didn't know the reference? I laughed extremely hard when Konata was hanging her head out of the bus(?) and randomly turned into Maetel, and I was overjoyed when out of nowhere Shiraishi yelled "Look, the East is burning red!" Neither of those scenes would have been funny for people who have never seen GE999 or G Gundam. To me, if you're going to show Lucky Star at an anime club, it ought to be after you showed just about everything else. That way at least people are getting the most out of it instead of awkwardly sitting there and thinking "Heh heh... another parody I don't understand..."

Good to hear about Trigun... Have you thought about The Irresponsible Captain Tylor? That show was really funny and actually had a plot that went somewhere. It's slightly on the parody/homage side at times (to Space Battleship Yamato - hey, you should show that too! ) but it definitely stands on its own. I at least really enjoyed it.

Now that I think again, if you want to show recent anime, then Code Geass and Gundam OO (or Gundam Unicorn) is a must. Or you could add Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0.

I think FLCL is great to start someone out with. It has everything, great music, action, comedy, and a fantastic story. Haruhi would probably be good too, at least the first 6 episodes, everything after that doesn't matter much.

Luck Star is almost all anime references (I mean even Haruhi is in there probably more than 5 times, Konata even cosplays as her!). And its fairly slow, I mean the first 7 minutes of the first episode is talking about different ways to eat a piece of food. I mean if it wasn't for all the good things I heard about it, I would of stopped right there. Its a good show, but only if you get the references.

But anyways, if I had only one suggestion, I'd use Clannad. Its the anime I use to get my friends into anime and every single one of them ends up loving it. Especially that After Story.

Does it have to be limited to series? Perhaps you could add some movies, like the ghibli movies?

Yeah we'll be showing movies too. but it's been so slow we've just been watching big screen movies for the last few weeks.

Eva is out do to the Emo and Whining, FLCL is too short though we may use it for the movie nights.

It wouldn't be so bad but we are in a tiny town of 800 and our 'club' only has 3 members at the moment. thus the were looking for anime to draw people in. it's not all bad though we get the Auditorium and it's projector for ourselves. :3

The new Eva movies, You are (Not) Alone, and You can (Not) Advance, are actually not nearly as whiny and emo as the series.

For really current stuff, I've heard good things about Blue Exorcist (haven't watched it yet).

Oh, yes, Blue Exorcist is awesome! :) It's about the devils offspring. Although, if your members are religious about god like my parents and don't want you watching things about the devil ,then don't.

Inu X Boku: Secret Service is pretty good too. It's still new, 3 episodes are out at the moment. This is full of comedy, youkai/supernatural beasts, with a tinge of romance; my favorite. :P

I remember that my HS anime club used Slayers. Lodoss War would also be a good one.

Tenchi Muyo! and Ah! My Goddess might also work.

Stick to the classics for your initial shows.
