Megami Tensei, anyone?

#1 Post by whitenenesha » Thu Aug 23, 2012 12:29 pm

I'm talking about Shin Megami Tensei franchise, the one ATLUS keep working on. The game mainly focus about demons, myths and 'more darkness applied'. The most popular series are Persona and Devil Survivor (I think).

I only plays Persona (from 1 to 4), SMT Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga and Devil Summoner myself.

Anyone plays?

I've only played P3 and P4 Arena. I'm waiting for P4 Golden on the Vita (:

I absolutely love it! The visual style and the music are one of my favorite things <3

P3 and P4 Arena... I see. Most people knows Megami Tensei by playing famous P3 and P4. Wow, got Vita already? I envy you *sob*
Yay for the music! Shoji Meguro is great composer xD

Yeah, I'm waiting for P4G as well. Persona is actually one of my absolute favorite games, which is why Culina has a lot of cues taken from the series (aside from the RPG combat. That's next project)

I've played all of those too, but I never got past Dante in Nocturne. I also played the first Digital Devil Saga. Good times!

Ive played Devil Survivor 1 and 2, both awesome games but the difficulty level was a bit too hard for my liking xD
Ive also played all the Persona games except 2 and Arena, which Im going to play as soon as Im able to steal my boyfriends ps3 this weekend. I love p3p, but not a big fan of p4 (I know Im weird). I'll probably never get a psvita so who knows when i'll get to play a new persona game again :/ awesome games though.

Nah, a lot of people who really enjoyed P3 weren't fans of P4 and vice-versa, myself included. They seem to appeal to different types of people, maybe?

I've played P3:FES, P3P (just so I could play as a girl--totally worth it), P4, and Strange Journey. I'm also playing Nocturne at an extremely slow pace. Even though the battle system is essentially the same in every game, all the little touches they add to it make each game feel not-so similar. Letting your demons evolve in Nocturne was pretty cool; it gave you a reason to keep them in your party. Strange Journey is all about the fusions, though--Frost Ace, anyone?

I still swear by P3, though. The characters in P4 just didn't do as much for me, for a number of reasons.

Ah, so I'm not alone. :) I also didn't like the characters in P4, which is a huge contributer to why I didn't enjoy the game as much. (I also preferred the dungeon crawling in P3P, but I won't get into that).
My boyfriend and I constantly debate over this (He's a huge P4 fan) because he thinks none of the girls in P3 are appealing, romantically.
I can't really put my finger on why I don't like the characters in P4 as much. I never felt connected to them, and therefor, couldn't stay engaged in the story. I couldn't put P3P down. On the other hand, I had to force myself to play P4. :/

Yaay, megaten... and like always I arrive late!

I played P2 Tsumi/Batsu, P3, P4, Strange Journey and If... Being If... the only one I couldn't beat (Got stuck on the final dungeon)
I couldn't find any time to play DS 1 and 2, and Devil Summoner on the PS2 is still waiting for me.

I'm also a fan of P3 characters, so switching to P4 was a mood killer. I couldn't like them (except for Naoto) so my experience wasn't as deep
as it was in P3.

Strange Journey hated me. I died so many times I didn't enjoyed it a single bit past the half of the game. Also, demons are so bitchy
when talking to them.

Why there is not an english version of If...? Devil Summoners (PSX) should have one as well X3
Too bad I couldn't get Nocturne nor the first Persona.

I really don't care about P4G (I would rather a more enhanced version of P3).

@Teacup:
I miss your previous avatar T_T

Note: When I say P3, I mean the original, FES and Portable.

@Carrogath: Yay for Frost Ace! \o/
@netravelr: Kudos to the fellow player! xD
@Kuroneko: Devil Summoner PSX is released again in 3DS with title 'DEVIL SUMMONER: SOUL HACKERS'

Many people dislike other Persona games and created fanwar because of it. Gamers in my country mostly knows P4 only and never touched other 3 Persona games (much to their dismay though). Me personally never really liked P4 because its simpler storyline than its predecessor and enchanced P3's fitures, well, I know S. Link system is yadda yadda but I prefer MORE dungeon crawling and their complexity. ATLUS keep milking P4 to more higher place because it sells and get it upgraded soooo damn much that I often get bored by it. Let the fans decides what's better, though :<

If anyone wanna try other Persona game, grab your PSP and search for Persona 2 Tsumi and Batsu also Persona 1. For those who didn't know, P3 will gets its movie, but the date is still TBA.

+1 to that ! It's probably the only reason I'm going to buy a Vita (at least at the time of this post).

Aww heck ! I won't get my own copy of Persona 4 Arena until the second week of September ! Hhhnnnggghhh !

Wha... ? Not even Mitsuru ?
P4 has Rise too... Ah dang it ! Focus !

Anyway, big fan of SMT as well. I simply love both P3 and P4 because they're not identical. That and Shigenori Soejima's art is “Woohoo ! Oh yeah !” to me ! I even bought the Shigenori Soejima Art Works book since I'm such a sucker for his style.

\o/ I didn't know that! Now let's wait for If... Yeah, as if that were to happen X(.
I remember that I wanted to make a fanmade remake of If..., but I couldn't find a translation of Akira's route (I did find the others)
so I lost the will to go on with it.

I love the SMT series! This might be strange but I never found any of the games too hard for me. Sometimes they were difficult but overall nothing I wanted to throw against the wall haha.

I've played the Devil Survivor games, Persona games (I've even bought and played all three versions of P3), Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner (I think Raidou's my favorite protagonist), etc.

I was thinking about getting P4G but the fact that it's on Vita kind of pushes me away from it. That and I was hoping there'd be a female option like in P3, but eh I guess we can't all get what we want.

I finally got a chance to play P4 Arena this weekend. The vs mode is really fun, and I love the new character, Labrys. Her fighting style is really awesome~ Even though it isn't an RPG, it still feels like a Persona game, which is pretty cool.
But I have some complaints about the game's 'story mode'. The ADV mode is the same as the other Persona games, but the NVL mode... well... let's just say the writing isn't engaging. It's boring, and I think the game could do without it. And playing from Yukiko's perspective, I noticed more than 3 glaring typos in the first five minutes. That completely broke the immersion. Maybe that's just me though, since the game has gotten really high reviews.
The fighting aspect is truly the best part though. I think it's worth getting the game just for that. :3
