I have searched and not seen another thread about the Visual Novel Reader so I decided to make one to discuss and bring some support/beta testers for this awesome program. I'll try to explain it to the best of my abilities but I'm not an expert on the Visual Novel Reader, nor a programmer (just a fan) so please correct me if I get some of the details wrong.
Visual Novel Reader allows anyone to translate visual novels without needing to worry about hacking, patching, or re-packing (that has a nice ring to it

). It does this by using some of ITH's (Interactive Text Hooker's) .dll files to retrieve the in-game text and allows you to submit translations for them that are then stored on a online database. When someone loads the game with VNR running and synced with the game, and as long as they are connected to the internet, they will be able to read your translations. It's very easy and multiple people can collaborate or "improve" on each other's translations. You can make an account to get credit for, keep track of, edit, or delete your translations, but you are not required to have an account to enter subtitles.
It's in an early stage of development right now but IMO it's working pretty well already. There are some issues to be worked out and it crashes a lot but VNR's creator, jichi, is working hard on improving it.
Here's the Hongfire thread where he frequents to talk about VNR:
