I have always loved Han Duusemsa's work...she was one of the few female comic book artists I knew back in the day, and she did one of my favorite comics: Arion Lord of Atlantis. She's doing Star Wars stuff now. She had a nice realist style, but also would draw a diverse cast of people...and she coukd really do sword and sorcery!

I've also long loved Jaime Hernandez's Locas work in Love and Rockets. He can get a bit cartoony, but he draws people of different ages and races...and punk rockers and people from down on the block...with such a sense of humanity and the places he makes really feels like a real places. Also, depiction of a wonderful lesbian relationship back in the 1980s.

Back in the day I also really loved Ms. Tree by writer Max Allan Collins and artist Terry Beatty. Great indie team, great comic...and I loved Beatty's art style. Evocative, and really got a great noir feeling...also included people of color.

Another really great noir stylist was Eduardo Risso's work on 100 Bullets. Not hyper realistic it art style, but he really captures a great sense of a gritty reality, has great use of shadows and a great artists eye. Wonderful composition.

Of course, I have always been in awe of Alex Raymond's work on Flash Gordon and Rip Kirby. His photorealistic style in the 1930-50s was simply amazing. I mean...wow. He used live models for all his art and if I could draw lie him, I would die.

In the realm of Japanese artists...my favorite is Ryoichi Ikegami. Another realistic artist (no big eyes small mouth) who does noir amazingly. Also his work in Sanctuary had an 80s vibe I always loved. Here's an example:

For my VNs, until my art gets up to snuff, I'd love to work with artists who can do a noir/realist style...but most of the folks here seem more into anime style.
