I just finished the first season of the anime. Since the Refrain anime is supposed to be coming in October, I wanted to make a thread and see what people thought of the first season and how they feel about the sequel. I've been wanting to play the VN for years, but after I saw an anime was getting made, I put it off longer. Now I think I need to cave in and order the PSP version.

I loved the anime's first season. The animation style was different than KyoAni's, but I still really enjoyed it. I think having a group of close friends at the center - especially having a mix of genders - really expanded the series and definitely made it more interesting for me. All of the routes/arcs were interesting. However, that preview for Refrain makes the wait, even at only a month or so, very hard. (I guess I should just be happy it's not like the Flowers of Evil teaser for a season two that will probably never get made!)

What did you guys think? For people who played the VN, do you feel like it was a good adaptation?

It was an ok adaptation of the common route, although one hampered by what seemed like a pathetically low budget. The characters routes each had to compress 3 hours of reading into 3 episodes, requiring some sacrifices to make it fit.

One thing that really bothered me was how they start hammering on the 'truth of this world' foreshadowing for the refrain route. In the VN you see very little of that until you enter the Rin route, and it's far more subtle/ambiguous. The anime version just starts slapping you over the head with it from episode 2.
