Who is the toughest boss you've ever faced in an RPG Game?

Hey, I found those optional bosses gave us rare item that can be used for the real final boss, oh, well, in recent games optional boss is just to add "ranks" or money, like that.

Sometimes the optional bosses are crazier than the final bosses. Final Fantasy's a good example here. I STILL can't beat Ozma in FFXI...

For me it's got to be zohar from Lanar 2. It took me 9 months and a restart of that dungeon to beat him.

I have a confession to make. I am a munchkin. I will attempt to find loopholes in the game design, that make it trivial for me to win any battle.

A good example is Final Fantasy 9. One of the things with FF9 was that Haste stacked with Regen, which meant that a character with Haste would regenerate faster. Needless to say, I gave all my characters auto-haste and auto-regen (and maybe auto-cure, I forget). Over the course of the attack animation for the final boss (which involved slamming, IIRC, four planets into you), the party would regenerate all the damage from the last attack. The battle then degenerated into my party, not in any serious peril, repeatedly whacking the boss over the head with a sword.

I like to find loopholes, too. Again, in Grandia 3, give Yuki the "Berserk" ability and perform his special move "Flash" causes him to strike an enemy up to twelve times in a row. My roommate took it a step further and found that if you time it correctly with an aerial combo, you can get up to 30 hits on a single enemy.

Loophole are fine. Studying game mechanics and breaking them is all part of becoming a good game designer.

Like in FFVII, if you get like 4 counter attack materia, counter-magic linked to a powerful magic that is also linked quad magic, mp-absorb, hp-absorb, you never really have to enter in a command to win a battle.

I think Lavos from Chrono Trigger is one of the hardest boss

Hmmmm....Lavos is pretty easy WITH THE RIGHT STRATEGY...knowing the strategy <and a little luck, the middle's special attacks are NASTY> he's pretty easy...also helps if you have a trio that you are comfortable with. Chrono + Frog + Marle = dead Lavos FAST for me

One thing that irritates me on some games is the *it only takes a few shots for the boss to get rid of YOU but to get rid of the boss takes around 20 or 30 shots* I mean, you want the boss powerful but not like that!

something similar that irks me is when you fight a bad guy he has tons of hp, but if that bad guy joins your team he looses such hp bonus.

Yeah, they always seem to do that... It's really annoying. Or if a member of your party turns bad, he suddenly gains ridiculous moves and HP that he never had before...

For me it was the final boss of the Japanese Popolocrois Monogatari I, the Ice Demon.
It has 3 forms, and in the last form it has so much HP, and deals so much damage to all the party at once, that I died at least 5 times before defeating it.

The end of Sailor Moon: Another Story. Not because it was hard, but because it took so damn long.
