Spice and Wolf (Ookami to koushinryou)

#1 Post by yummy »

It is an incoming anime adaptation, from a manga drawn by Hasekura 凍砂 (sorry can't find the pronounciation).

Laurence Craft is a travelling merchant, going from place to place. This time he happens to travel to Pasuroe, a village where they celebrate a deity called Horo, supposed to bring great crops.
As he pauses on the road for the night, he finds a strange girl, half fox, half human, who names herself "Horo". As Laurence disbelieves her story, she said "I used to be called a god, but I'm Horo, nothing more." and showed him a bit of her power.
So she ends travelling with Laurence to the north, where she was born, through various countries and through lots of events.

Wow, I'm actually surprised she's not loli (which is a good thing to me, really ^^; ). So uhh... what's the genre though? Comedy, drama, action, slice of life, whatever? It could be a lot of things given the premise and the art style.

Hmm actually, it might be loli after all ^^;; But well, the heroine acts much like Arcueid in Tsukihime, I mean, she has a mature spirit.
It's much more like a heroic-fantasy tale, an adventure of some sorts.

I don't really know the series, I only read three chapters from the manga and it appalled to me esthetically and story-wise.
I mean, who wouldn't fall for a foxy girl lying in the nude, under a pile of fur ?
Maybe it's closer to a drama than an all-bashing series, or something close to Scrapped Princess.
There are elements like crusaders that might add a dark ambiance of some sorts.
So~ Wait and see, it might get quite interesting.

So...
Great anime so far. Cute main lead. And what a shocker that pig-tail girl (can't remember her name. ._.) is the villian... Although I should have known. :3
But I'm utterly lost in their economy babble. I'm not even sure if the people subbing the raws even understood what exactly they were talking about...

I understand the economics stuff... what I don't get is the trade war and what having a wolf versus the church has anything to do with it.

A peddler is supposed to be the humblest form of capitalist. Why he's already engaged in big picture stuff beats me... it's just Horo's doing as an important economic catalyst.

Wah! :( Spoilers! I haven't seen that far, as I'm watching it with friends... Could you add a spoiler tag?

(The friends, incidentally, described it to me as "Cute naked wolf explains economics".)
I released 3 VNs, many moons ago: Elven Relations (IntRenAiMo 2007), When I Rule The World (NaNoRenO 2005), and Cloud Fairy (the Cute Light & Fluffy Project, 2009).
More recently I designed the board game Steam Works (published in 2015), available from a local gaming store near you!

And seriously. Who would you rather have explain economics to you? Her:
