What are your currents favourites?

#1 Post by Fang-tan »

I'm sure I'm not the only one who changes their favourites all the time, right? So share what your current favourite anime or manga series are. Truthfully, I'm just curious if I'll find anybody who knows or enjoys the same as some of my favourites. That would be a treat. XD

Okay, currently I'm following Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist and Eyeshield21. Yeah, all shounen. Still a shounen at heart.

Favourites?

I am more of a thinking watcher, with lots of "laid-back" stuff, so I'd say...

Abe's stuff (Haibane Renmei, Lain)
Gunslinger Girl (mainly manga, but first anime isn't bad too, good adaption)
Azumanga Daioh, Hidamari Sketch, Sketchbook, currently K-ON, Lucky Star, and other good slice of life anime
Chobits, Honey and Clover and Midori no Hibi for those fun/romance
For that pure romance, True Tears and ef (both seasons)
And anything from Makoto Shinkai

Oh? Would you reccomend K-ON? Normally I don't go for 'cute girls doing cute things' but that blonde one is just too cute.

The only shounen thing I've watched/read in awhile was Soul Eater. But I'm terribly behind.

Seriously, it's moe overkill. It's like taking the moe symbol from Hidamari Sketch, Yuno, multiplying her four times and then putting them in one anime. Warning - you might die from overloading with sugar.

But I like how it's light and doesn't really hurry to anywhere. I guess this is what all the anime based on 4-komas have in common - and that would be why I love them so much :>

I don't watch anime nearly as much as I used to, but I read a lot of manga.

These are the series that I currently follow with great interest:

Bakuman - A series about two guys trying to get published in Shonen Jump. Written by the same team that wrote Death Note. My manga-ka friend in Japan says some of it is completely made up, but a lot is spot on.

Arisa - The best horror shoujo manga I've come across since Partner. It's by Natsumi Ando, the artist behind Kitchen Princess. Just started running, so not much to see here, but I'm already intrigued.

Liar Game - The art is wobbly, but the story more than makes up for it. It's all about mind games and messing with your opponent.

Skip Beat! - My guilty pleasure. Shoujo series about a girl trying to make it in the entertainment biz.

Code:Breaker - Kinda reminds me of Flame of Recca, but better and with less nakedness (which might make it worse in some opinions).

--

I just started watching K-ON! and I got hooked on the first episode. Moe's not my thing, but they are so very cute. Plus, I feel a bit of affinity for the characters as I am somewhat of a floundering musician as well. The ending song is ridiculously catchy. I'm also watching Marie and Gali, but that's just because it's so odd.

Currently watching Chrome Shelled Regios and Birdy the Mighty Decode (season 2).
For manga, currently I'm reading MAR (Marchen Awaken Romance).

I think this thread just went from "what are your current all-time favourites" to "what are your favourites in the current season" :>

Gunslinger Girls? Yay! I found a comrade! Too bad I haven't watch the second season (yet).
What is the latest volume in your place? Since mine is stuck at volume 8, ugh.

Hmm, really good anime is hard to find. Here's my faves:
BECK/Mongolian Chop Squad (edit: the anime as well as the manga)
Twelve Kingdoms
Kamichu
Cat's Eye
Haibane Renmei
Planetes
... plus the unbeatable Urusei Yatsura, of course. Though I haven't watched all of the seasons. Yet.
(Edit: Plus, movie-wise, just about everything from Miyazaki.)

It's long been my opinion that if you watch Haibane Renmei and don't like it, it's a pretty good indication that you're probably a cold unfeeling robot bent on the destruction of the human race.

Also I have a huge soft spot for the early nineties Giant Robo OVA.
