PC Gamer - Big Book of Free...

#1 Post by NotABot55 »

...and guess which free games are overlooked?

Sure, I've played Knytt Stories (281) and KoL (224), and seeing all of Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos mentioned (233 - 237) was a nice touch, but c'mon PC Gamer! If you could mention Masq (052) and Fedora Spade (161), why not give a nod to Songs of Ariah (112 on the R'AA) or EVEning Course (095)? That's saying nothing of Renpy's or Novelty's omission from "More Game Creation Tools" on page 24....

Heck, does PC Gamer know this site exist?

In all fairness, visual novels aren't games.

Most visual novels aren't games - some are, unless you want to come up with such a strict definition of 'VN' that it excludes all kinds of dating sims and so on with similar interfaces. And it's certainly possible to make proper game-games with Ren'Py.

But I'd agree it's probably pretty unlikely PC Gamer knows Ren'Py or the RAA exist in the first place.

Meh, outside of the anime crowd, I don't think anyone knows what visual novels are period!

And even then, not all anime fans know what a VN is, much less that they exist.

Ah, more's the pity (or is that more stupidity?) Maybe I'm into things with a relatively limited audience (no Transcendence there either!) but I'm willing to believe that enough people want it....

And some anime/manga fans don't even know, that their favourite shows originate from a VN/Erogē-Ren’ai-Adventure to begin with. Like e.g. AIR, Clannad etc... AIR is even a 'hentai' VN o_0; As is "Kimi ga nozomu eien".
Audio Plays: [original] The White Feathers Directive - [Star Wars] Through Flame and Shadow
Ren'Py: Kassiopeia [very interactive VN] work in progress - looking for proof reader english

The community is too small to strive for more attention, and to make things worse - VN's aren't on that big demand as casual games, especially here in the western world.

And for those anime fans - they probably won't even know that most of the stuff they watched originates from eroge (hentai, lets bo more straight forward and specific for them) visual novels :D . You forgot to mention the pinnacle - Kanon :)
